Default quick question about ignitor/coil

thanks to you HT guys, i know that the reason my tach is getting so jumpy is because my ignitor is going bad. my question is when it does go bad completely, is it just my tach thats not going to work, or will my car not run also?

Yeah, if your ignitor completely goes on out on you, you'll have trouble starting your car. It probably won't even start at all, it'll just crank over...once you change it out, your car should run fine...good luck

OBD1 ignitor's go out just as often.. its just a wearable part that needs to be replaced cuz it goes out.. kinda like oil.. you need to replace it because it stops protecting the engine after so long.. same thing applies to the ignitor it just stops working after awhile

it may not be a faulty ignitor. clean off the two connections to the coil, (big black thing at the top of the dist) and yes, if it gets really bad, it will start to sputter and finally die and not want to start. it happened last week while i was at the track, i thought it was a bad ignitor again, i ran into this problem before, but because i had some time to tinker, i just cleaned it off and put the cap back on and it was fine. i was actually at laguna seca at the time and went out for the last session and never missed a beat all the way up to rev limit. amazing.
