Default Expo 4, was West Coast a good choice?

It looks like the interest is strong in the Expo 04 but not too many people are willing to drive out west and not many west coasters seem to be signing up, should we have kept it more east coast?

I know this can open a flaming session on myself, but in talking with some others and having mixed feelings about making the trip to the West. The interest in Expo 04 just seems alot more evident here in the east(outweighing the west)?

Just interested in what everyone thinks. No Disrespect to Trey or any of the planners of the Expo, all they do is there best and try to please everyone! Which they do a hella Job!

Opinions and thoughts Welcome......

im behind u 100% . from what i have read and seen on these boards to the people i have met, they all seem to be from the east coast; at least the ones who would consider making a trip to an expo. I didnt get a chance to attend expo 3 and an expo 4 on the west coast would ruin any chance to attend that 1.

So from what i have interpreted a more east coast friendly expo 4 would present a greater turnout and at least match that of expo 3, which in my opinion was a great turnout anyway.

It would be VERY unfortunate if 80% of the people at the west coast expo were from the east coast...

Maybe the first left coast expo will be the last?

It would also be a big shame to keep the west coast guys, no matter how many, from ever participating though...

Yep. Hopefully that will not be the case. Exblo 4 has the potential to be the biggest yet

I plan on doing my best to make my third straight Expo (as a designated drinker). I imagine I will be co-driving one of the right coast machines, or searching for a ride at any rate.

Yeah, Smitdog - you pretty much expressed my feelings 100% - I definately want to attend the event, but unfortunately I don't think I'm going to be able to afford to get my car out there (without driving it) and track it... I'm going to try to do some NASA HPDE's next year instead. I guess I got spoiled with the last Expo(Beaver was only a 5 hour drive for me).

Also, I think your right - maybe I'm just biased, but it seems like most of the enthusiasm for this event is NOT coming from "West Coasters." It's kindof a bummer, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see who actually shows up.

After watching everyone at Summit on sunday, it definately seems like the hardcore "track ******" are mostly on the east coast...

I think that more central locations should be chosen if possible - so everybody can join in the fun... (but there are so many awesome tracks on the East Coast )

Nick
(who'll probably be flying or driving a POS rental to Phoenix in May...)

I don't own a Type aRgh, so I could care less , BUT...

Trey is doing the fair thing in this case. If more east coast ones are practical beyond Expo4 then that's fine, but don't rag on him for doing the right thing and giving the lefties a chance.

I think it's the logical choice. I mean, people here has seen the turn out for Expo 3 and Expo 4 should be better than ever. But with all the turn over from people selling their cars to outright theft (die thieves die ), time will tell if people will start registering for on track activities.

Personally, I'm blocking off two weeks of vacation time for Expo 4. If I find a co-driver, I'll definitely drive out there. I've never done a cross country drive yet so it'll be an experience for me. But I may just decide to fly out there and perhaps rent a car if there are enough spots free for non-Rs on track.

James, if you read my post a tad more carefully, this is not a "rag" on Trey or anyone. I said he does the best job and that is the truth which everyone knows.....Please do not put words in my mouth.

perhaps a poor choice of words, it wasn't so much aimed at you, as it was to everyone as whole.

I still say west coast, if it's more than a 12 hour drive, I won't be able to make it.

Anton who can't taunt anyone for Expo4 since he already knows he must work that weekend and has been a bit melancholy since the initial date announcement.

Have fun guys, hope to see you all again at Expo5!

Granted, Trey only put the post up a little over 3 weeks ago, but... here's some stats and figures to think over before bashing Smitdog..

37 ITRs currently registered
Including trey, 27 are registered for the HPDE, 7 of which have paid.
Including paid and non-paid, 9 are from west of the mighty Mississippi River..
That's about 1/3 thus far..

Adding instructors(who we should DEFINITELY appreciate making this trip)..
Of 6 listed(not counting canadians, only because I don't know the provinces well enough to say anything) 0 are coming from west of the mississippi..

Consider non-drivers you say? We have 19 listed thus far, 3 of which are R owners. 10 are from west of the Mississippi.. A little better, but remember only 3 of those have Rs, which is fine, but not what the point of the event is..

-----------------

Now.. on to the opinion portion of my post.. I've alluded to this once or twice already, and Smitdog just basically put it out there.. And I know there's more east coasters that have this opinion, as some have already expressed in this thread..

Doing the west coast is fair. There is no arguing that. Awhile back, when everyone was all up in arms over the location of the last expos, a rotation was settled upon(how, i'm not sure, but i remember it was decided thus). And that's friggin awesome. I would love for the west to experience what I did last year. They deserve it just as much as anyone.. IF anyone decides to show up.. So far, the majority of the excitement is from the east. And now that the newness of expo 4 news has worn a bit, some are thinking that the logistics of actually getting out there with their Rs are a little tougher than first thought..

Here's what it boils down to: THIS THREAD AND MY OPINION SPECIFICALLY ARE IN NO WAY ANY KIND OF DISCREDIT TO TREY AND THOSE HELPING HIM. Trey is doing a kickass job, along with the help of some others, as they did last year. And for that, we owe him tremendously. I think that people are getting scared, at least out here in the east, that all their hard work is not going to be rewarded, at least at the pace things are at now. Last year we had all the driving spots full very quickly. It's not happening that way now. Furthermore, the people from the east(some, not all) don't want to drive out if the west guys aren't even going. Why should they?

Basically, what happened to all the west coast people who complained about location over the last few years?

It's fair to have it on the West coast. Hope the turn out is good.

I thought the plan for the ITR expos was to move west, central, east and do over again.. well that is if there is enough interest in a few years.

I live North east in Toronto, Canada. Expo 3 at BeaveRun, PA was 5 hrs away which is not bad at all. I don't have the funds or time drive out to this one. Enjoy guys, I'm sure there will be fun times.

Get back to bed nukka!

My vote is that we try to be fair to all hypeaaRRss across this beautiful nation of ours and give everyone an opportunity to participate in this glorious event, we all call the EXPO. Trey is doing a fabulous job and I commend him for steping to the plate for #3 and actually taking a chance with this when noone would. Now, if there isn't much interest from the area from what was chosen and the head count is still low, I think the parties involved in this should reconsider a new location. Afterall, we want this to work and top #3 that was in no doubt in my mind the best EXPO thus far. Yes, I want #4 to be better, cause I want to see 200 hypeaaRRss der! But this is the decision of Trey and company, and again, is doing a b0mbtastik job!! Trey for Govenor!!! Go skins!! Long live the Krazy Horse!

Thanks,
Victor
