Default HID in a stock EK housing...

OK...i have done a fair bit of research here on HT. It seems like there is 2 ways
of mounting a D2S/D2R HID into the stock EK housing.

1. Retrofitting a HID projector into a stock EK housing.
2. Buying a H4 shield/adapter making the HID bulb plug and play.

However, in order to get the true output of HIDs, option 1 is the only way to go. But my question is, how is the light output for option 2? I know alot of people has done this but i don't see many pictures of the light output, cutoff, spead etc. Anyone has done this and got some pics or comments to share?

I went with option 2 in my ek. Lighting was awesome, pattern was good.it wasn't the best it could have been because I left in the defuser since I knew I would go back to stock eventually. there is almost no room for error with going with the shield. just aim and you are good to go. I would have liked to have done a projector retrofit but I knew I wouldn't have my hatch for that much longer.

I don't know what i want to do right now. I am just in the planning stage. Idealy, i would like to go with option 2 (using a OEM Lexus, BMW, TL.... kit and using the casper shield) because i like to retain the OEM look (non projector) but i would like to see some pictures of the cutoff, spread etc before going this route.

What OEM kit did you use? Got some pics of the lighting? And by defuser, are you referring to the shield that is inside of the OEM headlight?

sorry no pics, hd crashed. I had some OEM Honda HID's from some suv. Just go with the shields. if you don't feel they are up to what you want, which they should be, get an extra set of headlight housing and retrofit the projector. can't go wrong either way.

check the link in my sig - I am running http://www.autolamps-online.com (now http://www.hid-online.com) h4 hylow...i need to take more recent pics - I got the cutoff a 'lil more level then in the pics...if you aren't going to retrofit projectors, this kit is the next best thing. BTW I am running philips ultinon bulbs (6000k) also please note I am using CTR headlamps (made for RHD) which don't have the reflectors in the housing
see the same kit in Apex_i_ITR's hatch here https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=639146 his camera did a better job of getting the true color

for those who are lazy here is one pic

Thanks for everyone's response.

Mofo80; What OEM kit is that? From reading your post, you didn't modify your housing in any way.....is this a correct asumption? Also, do you have a pic of the lights on the road? I want to see the spread as well.

i have oem maxima ballast and bulbs.
i used epoxy to put the shields in the bulb. that's the only mod i had to do. i don't have any pics of the spread but there's a wider range of coverage.

Does it light up the road better? What about hot spots? I mean, with projectors, the light is VERY even...no one spot is brighter but with halogens, there are hot spots meaning certain parts are brighter.......i guess i am trying to ask if the light output is evenly distributed.

it def lights the road better. if you got the money, do the retrofit. if you don't, you'll still be fine.

you don't really need the projectors. the color and brightness will be good.

retrofitted projectors don't look that bad in EK housings. It is not very noticable, and is quite attractive. looking at the front end of the car, it looks like it has eyes. anyways, the output is amazing, and it is worth doing.

What kind of projectors are they? Do you have a write up on how to do this retrofit?

EDIT: on my head! You mentioned in your first post that they are BMW bi-Xenon....but do you have a write up about the retrofit?
