Default Q about an exhaust and header hook up.....

I recently got a midsection exhaust for my DX to bolt on with my rear section that I have had for about 5 months!! But when I went to install the mid I realized it was too short and that it was for an EX....the DX has the cat built in with the manifold so the exhaust piping goes straight from the muffler to the manifold....ya know!!!
Come to find out they don't even make a midsection for the DX.....the company just didn't bother to tell me that it won't fit even thought they knew I had a DX

SOOOOO.......I really want a header for my car, but no one makes one for the DX. I thought I saw one but it was like $550...yeah right!!!
so my question is......................................can I keep the midesction exhaust for an EX and get a header and cat for an EX and bolt them all together???? the block on the EX looks the same as mine. and what could I do about the 2nd O2 sensor on my car.....could I drill a hole in the cat or somethin'. I don't want to leave it out and have my engine light on all the time!!
Please help tech guys!!!!! thanks a bunch!

I'm assuming you have a 96'+ model Civic...

A stock EX exhaust manifold, or any other "non approved" D16Y8 header will bolt up. There's just a couple of problems, easily resolved.

First, no more cat since your cat is integrated with the D16Y7 exhaust manifold, so there will still be a gap down there that's just the right size for a hi-flow cat (or a "test" pipe...). And second, you currently have 2 Oxygen sensors. One before the cat, and one after the cat. If you bolt up an aftermarket header (or EX manifold), you will end up with one less "bung" for an O2 sensor. If your mid section came with a bung, this won't be a problem since the new header is likely to have one also. Anyway, some people have had luck hanging the 'extra' O2 sensor in a safe spot in the engine bay, but eventually you will get a check engine light. One possible fix is to get someone to weld a new bung somewhere in your exhaust for the other sensor. I don't know if you will have further engine code problems if there is not a catalytic converter between them.
