anyone with a 6th gen sohc civic have trouble with installing an aftermaket header? im asking because ive heard that an EX cat and exhaust piping must be used becaue the stock DX cat is on the stock exhaust manifold, any way to get around this?

Re: header on a '97 dx? (Cat)
do a search man...theres been like 50 posts like this
but because im in a good mood....
the catalytic converter is on the exhaust manifold on dx civics. on the ex models, the catalytic converter is bolted on after the stock header. they dont make headers for dx's but what you do is purchase an aftermarket header for an ex. you basically have 2 options.
1. buy an ex or equivalent cat and bolt it up after the aftermarket header (if u plan to get an exhaust system as well, a 96-00 ex/si exhaust system will fit)
2. install the header without a cat (the collector from an ex header will allign with the exhaust piping on a dx, eliminating the cat altogether)
hope this helps.
p.s. i believe you will also need to extend your o2 sensor.
