Had just got through with autoX (paxed 7th of 59) when a guy ran a red light and got me....sucks Any ideas about the best way to go about getting the new parts? take it to a dealer or buy the stuff myself and have it painted? looks pretty easy to install, not enough damage to get JDM front end, but maybe if I get a high enough estimate I would have enough to do it.

 

well, if you want new USDM parts, you can order from http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org - there prices are pretty decent...

 

are your fenders, hood or radiator support damaged?

If not just get a new/ used bumper and toss it on.

 

If you want it done right - so it's difficult to tell whether the car has ever been hit - then find the very best body shop in your area. It does not have to be at an Acura dealer (or any dealer).

Remember, the other guy's insurance is paying for it, so you may as well have it done right.

Yup....take my advice......go to a ferrari autobody place and have them give you the estimate. Then ask for a cash settlement from their insurance company. Then you can go buy whatever you need usdm or jdm.

My front end was about that bad plus some fender damage. The guy that hit me paid for everything because he had no insurance and he didn't want to get sued.

In your case do what I posted above.

 

If he was at fault(which he was) then you have the right to take the car ANYWHERE you want. Find the highest estimate and have the shop fax that to his insurance company. They will then mail you a check for the amount. The money is then yours to do as you wish with. In the eyes of the insurance company, they have paid you for your loss of property, so it's not their concern how you spend it(i.e. doing it all yourself and having a nice chunk of change left over)

If that happened to me, I probably still wouldn't buy a JDM front end

If I was just given money, I'd probably spend it on something else (non car related).

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind having a JDM front (HID's own).

Yup you could just go back to USDM front and have money for Expo 4 + digital camera + gas money to get to expo
