Kudos to the E30 guys from Summit, are you in here?
I had the pleasure of being on track this weekend with the two (I think) guys running in the Spec E30. In my Saturday race, I was running about 1.5 seconds faster than the car behind me and about 1 second slower than the car in front of me. As you can imagine, this left me without neary a 944 to compete with. I spent most of the race conserving tires and passing occasional lap traffic. About two thirds of the way through the race, I came up on the E30 guys duking it out with one another. Most likely because it was one of the very few times that we're actually faster than someone else, this is the first time I have really paid attention to a race going on in front of me that I wasn't somehow included in. Since there wasn't anyone around me and there was some seriously close racing going on I decided to hang back, not interfere with their race and just enjoy the show. I have to say that this was some of the closest and most entertaining racing I have seen in a long time. Sticking a nose in here, trying the outside there... it was great to watch two (nearly?) identical cars taking countless shots at one another. If you're in here, thanks for the show.
Anyone else see this going on Saturday?
edit: I forgot to bring my video camera to the track or I would have some great video to show.

Thanks for the good racing sense! Most would have gotten into the middle of it.
Yes, we had a great race! Our Spec E30 cars are built with a spec tire, spec suspension, stock engines, stock diffs, and even stock chips. This keeps the cars reliable, cheap, and close on the track. I have about $6,500 in my car ($6,845 now that it's painted) and it's pretty much built to the max. Sure, some like to tinker and develop parts but we're into close and exciting racing. And we're doing about 120 mph on long straights so the cars are fast enough to have fun.
I was driving the yellow Spec E30 SU car and a friend was driving the white car. One other Spec E30 car (SO-faster class) was there too. Next year, we'll have eleven cars at the races. After seeing the close and cost-effective racing, many guys are building cars for next year.
Thanks again for not adversly affecting our race...and I'm glad you enjoyed the show.
See you at the track,
Carter

hi bone! no; my cousin's white E30 is a 88 M3; not legal for the E30 challenge (but legal for the GTS challenge!). currently, his E30 M3 has a broken shifter; needs to drop the tranny and replace....
he didn't do any J-stock BMW CCA racing this year

Being one of the slower models out there on many occasions, I'm very familiar with get screwed by faster traffic.
