Negatives of just having a cone filter on throttle body. I didn't do it, but friend did it to his c
This is the most rediculous thing I have ever seen. He got an GS-R AEM cold air intake and it didn't fit, I seriously don't think it's a GS-R CAI. So he decided he would just place the filter off the throttle body. No doubt that there is a bit more go in the car. My reasoning is, if it works that well, why aren't people doing it. There must be a negative to this and this is the reason why people don't do it. Less Velocity in the air maybe, and hotter air being sucked in. I was just wondering and I would never do this unless someone can tell me there is no negatives to it and all benefits. No, I am not a riceboy! any opinions?
That can't be good that he is sucking in flaming air! May be making more noise probably not more power!
It's valid and give you good throtle response at low temperatures. Only disadvantage is this way sucks alot of hot air from the engine compartment.
thats basically how mine is set up right now. my intake arm is probably less than a foot long. If the car is running and just sitting still, when you step on the gas, you can feel it suck in the hot air, and sometimes it will stall lol. BUT, while driving and when the air is flowing, my car has never run better :shrugs: by the way I put it like that because I drove through the hurricane on the way to NOPI and didnt want to suck in water, and it runs so good I just left it.

I know a guy who did it with a CRX, he removed his hood and made a heat shield to go under the filter and it worked extremely well. I suppose you could cut a hole in the hood, put a scoop on it and seal the heat shield to the hood and it would work just as well, but who wants to cut a hole in their hood anyways.
