motor swap in cali?
just wondering, those people with swaped motors in california.how do you guys pass smog. planning to swap soon but im worried about passing smog. i know for sure that as soon as i drop a b16 in my crx. theres no way in hell im going to pass smog. ?help me out on this one.
well this issue been covered alot lately. do a search. but heres a quick run down
Any USDM motor will be smog legal obviously if its same year or newer
JDM motors smog legal only if the equivalent was sold here as well
Examples. B16a2 B18a/b B18c1 or B18c5 are the most commonly swapped
NO B16a1's cus there were never sold here. sorry. I asked all the questions already to a Smog referree, thats what he told me.
Also all US sensors have to be on the motor and you have to use the corresponding ECU for the motor. Yes they do check
hope that answered most of your questions. I'm in process of doing a USDM B18c1 swap and am doing everything by their rules to get a BAR sticker

Or you can do it ealigallly there is many around my area (pomona) that would do it. I got a friend that took his 91 civic with a ZC here local not (sure which one) since there is many smog places around here and was only charged for the smog and didnt have to pay extra. He told me that the smoger knew the engine was different but he still hooked him up. Good thing I got a d16z6 though I wont have a problem. Just get a USDM engine its a bit more then the JDM's but you wont have a problem.
Dude, run hotter plugs (like 4E's instead of 6E's NGK)
find an adjustable FPR-Turn it real low
but some SMOG PASS stuff at the local auto store and you're good to go.

if you get a B16 you'll have to convert to OBD1 since the Civic Del Sol came with them. You can pass smog just fine just do a search on what's been done
