Koni Yellow adapter ring fitment
I recently purchased some used ground control coilovers from someone locally and bought some koni yellows a few weeks ago. I knew i needed adapter rings to get the "generic" GC's to fit the koni yellows, as they're too large for the KY's little clip.
So i found someone online who had some adapters and bought them. Now when i try to assemble it, the OD of the adapter ring is too large for the ID of the GC sleeve, meaning the sleeve sits on the ring, instead of the ring sliding into it. The ID of the ring fits perfectly on the clip for the KY's.
What i'm wondering is, if the sleeve sits perfectly level on the adapter ring (they're the same diameter, it won't slip off) would it be ok to run it like that, or should i just get the new sleeves from GC. I'm pretty sure the rings are right, as they fit perfectly, but i think the GC's are either knockoff's or the previous owner bought a specific application.

GC has a threaded perch that has a groove on the underside that fits the snapring on the Koni's. It fits snugly on the OD of the shock body so there is also no issue with it moving around. I would recommend getting them. The adjuster ring you have now will thread right on.
I almost made the same mistake you did. ....Well....I did in a way.
I bought some used GC sleeves for my Koni Yellows. I knew they weren't specifically made for the Koni's but I thought there was an adapter that would make them fit. THERE ARE NO ADAPTERS! You must buy new GC sleeves. The good news though like Mohudsolo stated is that you only need to purchased the "sleeve" portion.

but if you have any friends at a machine shop with a lathe...
they can "turn" (or bore out) the inside portion of the bottom end of the sleeve to fit the ring in there perfectly as GC intended...

yeah i called today, i need new sleeves with a counter bore in them for the rings to fit. Oh well, they quoted me at 60. Worth it to get the suspension on right. Thanks for the responses.

I am having a hard time understanding what you are talking about as well.

GC makes coilovers that are specifically designed to snap onto the Koni's perch grooves:

notice how there is a different application for stock, and tokico?

there's mine.
Side subject: Should I have received new bumpstops along with my Koni SP3s or is it fine to just use the stockers? I can't tell from the little diagram in the box, but it looks like they suggest using the stock bumpstops - just want to make sure it'll work before I take my car apart.
Koni also makes their own coil over kit specifically for their yellow shocks. The inside diameter of the koni "sleeve" is ever so slightly larger than the outside diameter of the shock and has a relief at the bottom to fit to the snap ring. It is a beautiful fit. I got mine from RD enterprises at http://www.shox.com
The adaptor ring is just that and is a "perch" unto itself. The GC sleeves that are sold with Koni shocks in the GC kit are machined specifically for the shocks. You will be fine with the sleeve resting on the ring IF you use O-rings between the sleeve ID and the shock to space them properly.
