Glorifying Stupid Shit on TV -> A Reason Why Things Won't Change
I'm flipping the channels just now and run across a couple of guys at a Porsche swap meet. Theres some pretty cool cars, so I decide to watch. Then I realize I'm watching SupR 2NR TV. I think... "Hmmm, maybe its not so bad after all."
There was some "Canyon Carving" in the Porsches, but it actually looked pretty tame. Nothing more than what I've seen on "Car and Driver TV" and the test drive series on Speed.
Then came the next segment. 7 or 8 minutes of drifting from Japan with the boys from Super Street magazine. No, this wasn't an organized drift competition.
It started with our heros filming themselves from in-car weaving in and out of traffic on a relatively crowded Japanese freeway. They almost hit other cars twice, each occurence met with laughs and giggles.
Then it was off to the drifting. On city streets. They weren't moving slow either.
Really, really good stuff.
Of course, at the end of the segment our gallant hosts reminded all the young folks out there that they shouldn't do this and should keep it to organized events. Ummm... uh huh.
Nice work guys. Next week we'll fill a room with 15 year old boys, show them a couple of hours of hard core ****, and finish up by explaining to them that they really aren't ready for sex yet and should wait a couple of years... And always use protection.
Stupid stupid stupid stupid ****.
It makes me feel tired.

funny, i saw and thought the same thing. ask RJ... anyawy, i know what you feel exactly, but hey, ya ever watch Grease, or any other movie about drag racing, stealing cars, or whatever tomfoolery jackassery?
Movies are setup with stunt drivers in controlled conditions. These morons are advocating drifting on public access streets and highways. I don't care how many times they say 'Don't do this shizzle at home, y0!'. They're presenting it as cool.
I was pretty annoyed when I saw that too.

Every Japanese freeway is crowded. I did notice that people weave in a out of traffic as normal practice.
Well, there's weaving and then there's high-speed, jackass/stunna-fueled weaving.
Just 'cuz it's in Japan, doesn't mean that it can't be considered jackassery.
I will say that I'm pretty fascinated by Wangan highway battling, but that's still pretty friggin reckless.

Haha, that's funny!
And shows like this is one reason I'm glad I rarely watch TV.

the worst part of it all is at the end of the show, and even in the rag, they ask you to send in your "craziest most insane" home made videos. on one of the episodes they ran some of the film people had sent in, and it was exactly what you'd expect it to be.
as with everything else, it's all about $.
