my cat is going bad, a stock one is extreamly expensive, and i work at a shop so normally i would just get one but they dont even have a listing for it... maybe im looking wrong? the car is a 00si, and when i have the wharehouses look them up there is no listing, any chance a cat from an EX or something will work? if not how about this obx one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...42860

I got a catco... they come either direct fit (100-150) or universal (50)...

I'm happy with mine... the stock one is OBVIOUSLY better quality though...

I installed mine the day after I installed my header... onto the same exhaust...

It didn't make any kind of giant difference but it did actually quite down the exhaust a little (stock one was/is still in ok condition)... also I'm pretty sure it does increase flow though... because after I put it on there was/is less backpressure.... the way I guage this for all the doubters/scientists... is on the highway at speed (same stretch) it takes less pedle to maintain the same speed... also there is less engine braking ability....

The header made an unreal difference as far as that goes... but the cat wasn't as noticable...

A guy who I work with who's opinion I trust (on some things) says that ALL the aftermarket ones are NO WHERE near the quality of stock ones and that just about ALL of them go after a year or two...

I think that's more than likely from being on modded cars that typically run rich...

I've had NO problems with mine but I've only had it for 4-6 months.

wont a test pipe throw a cel? my car keeps throwing the low catalist efficiency error, bad cat.. and i can hear it ratteling.. so with a test pipe, is there an o2 bung or anything ?

 

it depends on what kind of a car you have. if you have a car with an o2 sensor in the catalytic converter then you will throw a code if you put a test pipe in. if you have a car with the o2 in the header than you will be fine.

Don't get a test pipe, I think its illegal in Cali anyway. Go with a Carsound cat or something similar. I got a direct fit one shipped for about $100.

 

the OBX cat will work just like a test pipe in a way. all it is is a resonator with an O2 bung. you're better off getting a test pipe.

 

to tell you the truth, If i where you, I would be conserned about the fact that a 2000 honda cat has already gone bad anyway. just dosent sound right

No test pipe. I swear to god you guys would risk that 3000 dollar fine, having a louder car, and having your car stink for the very minimal gians of a test pipe.
