Default tech edge datalogging

has any one got the new tech edge 2.0 system to datalog? that web site is so jacked up i can hardly tell whats going on. it seem that you can buy a prebuilt kit that runs off a $30 sensor with a display and datalogging for like $350USD. i'm just wondering how the datalogging works like is there software to convert the signal into a usable value like mbar and then plot it against rpm and a/f.

I have the new 2.0 kit, and its definatly nice.
Ive used a palm for datalogging. Its pretty simple to use,
all you need is a $6 serial-null adapter from radioshack
and a hotsync cable for the palm.
The website DOES suck. Thats gotta be costing them
business.

I'm playing with the datalogging at the moment street tuning on my car. It works very well. The software you can download at their site for free. It displays the AFR voltage and rpm on a graph in real time but I don't think you can save the plot for later use. I use it with my laptop as it already comes with a serial cable that you can hook up the WB controller to the laptop or as mentioned before you can buy a cable for use with a palm PDA.

The data is logged into a text file with the current date and time stamp. What I do is select the values that you are interested in and import it into Excel to do a graph plot.

The WB also provides for 2 additional inputs that you can use to log anything you want (ie. Oil, Fuel or intake Pressure, temp etc..).

i really like the 2.0. i'm using it with a palm IIIc. i haven't decided what to use the other 2 inputs for yet. i use it as my a/f meter and to log everyday. i've got it set to alarm when i'm running 12.5 or below afr in boost. nice to know/hear the right afr while boosting w/o having to look at it...much safer.

That's exactly what I did, too...if you use it as a lean indicator, it'll be buzzing whenever you're cruising! The wideband logging works great, but for one reason or another, mine doesn't seem to be logging the MAP and IAT sensors, correctly. They don't really change much, just sit around a particular voltage (different for each sensor). Has anyone else had this problem?

sounds like a good product. what i had in mind was to log a/f, rpm, and map. then just plot them and look where i need to make the changes on my fuel map. does this seem like the right idea?

the map voltage won't change too much if you are at full boost...only change when spooling up or shifting. as for the iat i think the resistance changes a little based on temp...voltage won't change much either.

I have this allso, but i just dont know the best place to get a RPM signal for the input, where did you guys tap yours?

i tapped off the rpm wire at the ecu harness. the onlyh problem is that i'm getting some rf noise or something...sometimes the rpm reading get a little glitchy. i need to reroute it away from all the other wires running under my carpet for various other devices in the car like the stereo, etc. maybe but some sort of filter on it.

i'm assuming you're using the DOS program developed by TE from their site. i dont know if you've seen it, but theres another program available. if you go to http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/oz-diy-wb/ and go into the files section (register first). tewblog.zip is the program. its still improving but its very nice if you dont have a palm. here is a screen shot:

do you happen to know how to set up the MAP and IAT voltages so that they display pressure and temperature in some scale instead of just voltage?

setting up these values is covered in the user manual, avaliable when you DL the logger.

i'm looking to find the values that i need to enter into the logger. like what does 0V, 1V, ...5V, correspond to so i can enter that into the logger.

this is taken off the homemadeturbo board from j davis:

"O2 sensor: 14.7:1 AFR at 0.45 volts, anything higher is richer and anything lower is leaner - but noone can tellyou by how much. Stock O2 is calibrated for one thing and one thing only - stiochiometric.

MAP sensor: It is a 1.8 bar absolute sensor, not 1.7. It is linear for pressure:voltage, so graph it out via these two points: 1.6xx volts with key on engine off and 4.5xx volts at 10.6 psi. Due to physical construction, which limits MAP sensor diaphragm travel so that the full 5 volt referrence voltage return is never acheived, you never read past 9.25 psi OBD0 and 10.65 psi OBD1.

Oil pressure: It's a simple switch, you hit about 15 psig oil pressure and it opens the circuit with the warning light on the dash.

TPS: easy ****. Reads .5 volts at idle, and 4.5 at WOT. Simple potentiometer. Everything inbetween falls where it may. Honda service literature claims anything over 4 volts TPS triggers open loop, but it seems to me that happens before that point. "
