storage dollies?
Hi I was wondering if anybody has ever used Storage dollies and what there disadvatanges and advatages are, one website there 59.99 for a set of 4 wondering if its worth it: http://www.jcw.com/webapp/wcs/...00110
I've got a set that I bought from Harbor Freight. Northern tool carries the same exact thing. They look different from the JCWhitney ones. After reading the ad, these (JCW) are not meant for a car. The ones I have are.

I love them and would buy another set tomorrow if they disappeared. I have a very small two-car garage and I often use them to turn the car diagonal or sideways in the garage, or to push the car way up against the wall if I need floor space to work on something else.
Now, if you're a baller, these are the things to have:

You slide them under the car and it will pick the wheel up off the ground itself. At $350 to $450 for 2, they were a little too steep for me.

My Dad got me a set of cheapie wheel dollies (ok... so I play with dollies) from Big Lots a few years back. I'd bet he paid less than $30 for the set, just the cheap Chinese stuff on cast steel wheels like shown above. No need for super great wheels or anything since you won't be rolling the car more than probably 15 ft. at a time and most of the time the car just sits on them for extended periods of time. It does make it convenient to move a generally immobile car around, etc.
I have a deep garage 24W x 35L with a single support post in the middle so it makes it easy to put the racecar on the dollies longwise in the garage then spin it to sit sideways next to the post. If you need to move things around and increase walking space, you just give the car a shove anywhere it needs to go. Also sitting on the dollies means it is up a bit higher and easier to get a jack under, get a crepper under it, or not break your back when leaning over it.
I really like mine and no need to spend big money for basic function.

I have a set.
My Racecar is on them till it gets picked up.. Its quite nice being able to pull the car out of the corner and into a working position.. and when I am done.. Simply slide it back! Got to get ball bearings tho.. Bushes would be too hard!

I picked up a pair of the Harbor Freight ones, to see if I liked them. They were on sale for $39 for 2 (1 pair).
I like them enough I think I will buy another pair this winter.

My car has spent months sitting on them and I haven't had any problems.

Looking at JeffS's little pic, those from Northern and Harbor Freight are the same ones as mine from Big Lots. My car has been sitting on them for several years... unfortunately.
i got the harbor freights the thing i dont like is the studs go through the top, if they went down you couldnt turn them, luckily the tires cleared them, makes it easy to put the car sideways in a garage and make people think WTF? how? (ie: austin powers cart in hallway)
oh and i got them at $79 a pair

I just went out and bought shorter bolts of the same diameter and put them with the heads up so they don't interfere with the wheels or risk the tires.
