S2000 VTEC kick????
ok I have an EK with the JDM type r engine in there. And when vtec kicks, the sound changes DRASTICALLY and you feel yourself get sucked in the back of your seat. I love me car, and I'm pretty sure it's faster than an S. But I'm getting older and I think I should stop driving civics... ha ha.
So I'm selling the car and looking into getting an S. Anyways, my question is about the VTEC on teh S2000. Does it "kick" like mine would? or is it like the Integra GSR and just kinda go into vtec?

I have a 97 hatch with a GSR motor and when VTEC kicks in, not only can you feel it, you can HEAR it. Can't miss it. When I first picked up my S2K 2 months ago, I could never really hear or feel the VTEC kick in after 6k. Barely audible. I kept thinking there was something wrong with it. I'm sure it changes when you add some bolt ons such as an intake/exhaust. I think for people who haven't had modified hybrids, the stock S2K crossover sounds loud, but for me, it's not as audible, though I can pinpoint when it crosses over more so these days. Even stock NSX's VTEC crossover gives you goosebumps, but the S2K's F1-ish wail does get crazier when you get near 9k

00s and 01s KICK just a little more than the 02 and 03s.
The ECUS for the 02 and 03s are more refined and provide better mid range power.

man it does kick in, i drove the demo S2000 many times and had a lot of fun with it. normally i would feel bad about beating a car someone might buy but i saw how all the costomers drive it and the salesmen so i had to have my fun too
i wish i could afford one but my turbo teg is faster and much cheaper so i couldnt justify selling it

Personally in my MY01, I can feel it pretty well. It's pretty apparent in 2nd and 3rd gears. The sound is not that apparent, but if you listen, you can hear it.
This is, assuming, you have a stock intake system. If you have an aftermarket CAI or something, or even have the top of the airbox removed, the Vtec crossover is like night and day.

im starting to love my s2, i had a hatch w/ a gsr, ctrcams, i/h/e, and the sound isnt as loud, but it sounds more pure, i cant image if i started modding it, all i did was take off the air box, it sounds so pure. i miss my hatch tho, but the s2 is somthing to think about especially when ur geting older, you move onto bettter things, thats what i thought of it as. not to mention you get more stares than in a civic. im not dissing, but ya i really miss my hatch, just make sure u know what ur geting into, somtimes the cars u love is hard to let go,
[planing to get another hatch]

It depends on how you look at it. If youre one of those people that "needs" to have a behemouth (sp?) SUV to lug around your ****, then yeah, an s2k isnt going to suit your needs. But if your thinking that because its an uncomfortable, and unrealistic car to drive everyday, then no, its fine.
