Default Question!

I have a 98 Civic DX and recently my check engine light just went on, so i took it for a OBD2 checkup n found out that something's wrong with the catalytic converter, then two day later the light went off. btw i notice that the cat converters for the DX model costs twice as much than the CX or EX models, ne ideas y? should i just leave it alone for now since the light is off, or should i get that cat coverter replaced neways? another problem is that the lil box that says "maintenance required" just turned yellow the other day, so does that mean i need a tune up or something? despite the fact that i just had a tune up like a year ago?

Well, in the DX, I believe the cat is in the header. To replace the cat, you might have to replace the header...not sure. I think that tune-up just for the basic stuff like oil...etc..

not positive about your emissions on where you live but why not get a test pipe and eliminate the cat? just an idea

It could also be a bad o2 sensor on the cat. If you get a test-pipe, make sure it has an o2 bung on it.

If your car is OBD2 you will throw a code if you just get a test pipe even if it has a bung. You will need an O2 simulator wired into your ecu. I have one if you decide to go that route. The yellow service is just telling you it is time to take it by the dealership and let them steal your money. Make sure your oil is changed every 3000 and you should be fine. The test pipe with the simulator is the easiest and cheapest way to go. You can get a test pipe on ebay for around $45 shipped and you can get a sim. for around $45 also.
