GSR or B16 tranny for LS?
Hey i have an LS currently with a GSR tranny, but a B16 with LSD just came up for sale, so I was wondering maybe I should pick that up. What do u think I should do, my motor eventually will be boosted and used for circuit, which tranny should I go with?
I say stick with the GSR. Put a LSD in that tranny if you want to, but the SI tranny will have you running at a very high rpm cruising down the highways becasue of it's super short gearing and the LSs *relatively* low redline.
Ya I thought that too, but I often read people saying to get a good tranny (SI) for an LS. I guess its just the LSD that made me want it.

The SI is a short tranny, which people who quest for speed will say is a good tranny. If you are willing to throw in a LS 5th gear I don't see why the SI would'nt be great for you. A LSD is always a plus, and the shorter gearing down low will help accelleration, and with the LS 5th gear you could cruise just like a normal LS y0!
stick w/ the GSRtranny. i've had 3 trannies with my ls motor...LS, B16, and then the GSR. i love my gsr tranny...it's great for acceleration on stop and go streets and highways. the gearing is perfect for the ls power band. with the ls tranny, going into third drops your power band significantly. i've dyno'd my car with the ls tranny and gsr tranny and in order to get my car to make the same power i had with the ls tranny, with the gsr tranny i had to dyno in 4th gear. so the ls tranny you could say or use an example is like the gsr tranny going from 1st, 2nd, to 4th. major power loss there. the b16 tranny now just wasn't made for the ls. i was at 5k all day doing regular driving!! and only had 2k left to revv...etc. this tranny definately was not meant for the ls's power band nor it's torque!!
so stick with the GSR and get a quaiffe like i did...you'll love it in the end
