Default Ne1 got steps on how to check for codes for CEL?

I've searched and could not find the steps on how to check for CEL. What connector to pull etc.....My car just threw a CEL and I want to know what the code is.....thnx

do this...wire in a on/off switch and mount it somewhere like the glovebox. put a label to indicate jump position maybe. sometimes i don't have anything to jump it when you need too. sure you can get creative finding a jumper, but why not just flip a switch?
