"Saab didn't reveal its Subaru WRX-based 9-2 sport hatch at the Toyko Motor show but did release photos of its first production AWD 5-door hatch."
So a Swedish manufacturer builds a car on a Japanese platform and powertrain because of their association with an American company.
What's the ad slogan going to be? Paul Hogan in lederhosen?

Do they wear lederhosen in Sweden? I thought that was more of an alpine thing.
Maybe they'll do something using the majestic moose. (A moose bit my sister once. No really!)

Perhaps the slogan could go a little like this:
Saab--why put the cavalier or saturn label on it when you can charge more?
or
Saab, we used to be unique, and people liked that, but then GM made us build a truck
or
Saab, because Epsilon in Nordic languages sounds too much like "platform sharing"
EDIT: This looks like a fun car all kidding aside, but it kills me that Saab is no longer making Saabs, and has basically become a re-badger of other, sometimes questionable products.

Is SAAB, or Slob (as we used to say in my more youthful days), still in the airplane/aviation business? They did airplanes before they did cars, if I'm not mistaken.

The SAAB Draken and the Viggen will always be IMO the most awesome looking fighters ever made. Seriously cool birds.
And speaking of SAABs, I saw a SAAB the other day that I had never seen before, a small '60's looking 2 seat sports car, very Italian looking, and am completely and totally curious as to what the hell it was. I passed it in traffic and thought Bertone before looking in my rear view and saw SAAB. Anyone know what this animal was?
EDIT - found it..... http://www.featherlink.com/pho...shtml
the one I saw was red. Looked Italian enough for me...

Looks like a big kid version of the Sonnet.

Actually a Sonett III. The spawn of SAAB's hiring of Italian designer Sergio Coggiola for the purpose of redesigning the homely Sonett II. Me likey.

See, and I think the Opel GT is the shizzat, too yo. I've always liked that little car, just because it was so different. Funny thing is if money were no object and I could fill a warehouse with a car collection, an Opel GT, Triumph TR8 convertible, and a Triumph GT6 would be some of the first cars in the door. The SAAB from above would be soon to follow. And I'd track my old Spitfire down and buy it back.
I'd be well suited to own stock in a company that manufactures oil-absorbent garage floor mats.

I have seen a few Sob Sonetts autox, and rather fast. One ran a local autox recently.
I think I test drove one once.
Interesting available engines, especially in the early years. A V4, the engine from the 99, and a 2-cycle, I think.
As I recall, they were fiberglass, with a rollcage for framework. Very lightweight.
It think a Sonett was the first "riced out" FWD car I ever saw, back in the '80s. It had very wide rear tires and the rear was jacked up!
BTW, I thought WRXs were made (assembled) in a North American plant. I figured the new Sobs would be, too.
Also BTW, I used to own a GT6. Great car, and I still have 4 TRs and a Healey oiling down my garage floor (not that my CRX doesn't contribute its share).

Nope, basic cars are made in Japan... then the port installs the optional equip as they arrive in the country.

Dude, you already HAVE a WRX... no reason to make her get a Saab-badged one. Make her get the RX-8 for the sake of having variety... and RWD in the relationship.
-Chris, who's GF drives a Forester but... will have an "green early 70s Stingray long before I buy any f***ed up Forester with a hole in the hood" (referring to the 2.5XT, lol)

Seriously though I after slipping and sliding around in the rain this summer and snow last winter she said she definately wants something awd. I would rather her get a rebadged subaru than some cute-ute POS.

You mean like Martina Navratalova? (sp)
I know straight women who have decided not to get a Forester (or subaru for that matter) simply because they were afraid of the lesbian stereotype
And yet, you own a Miata...
And what's with forcing the GF to get a family hauler? Afriad you won't be able to... uh, "compensate" if she has a sportier car?
