S03's VS. RE-010's
S03...If I did a lot track racing ( for grip)...RE010 if its mostly a street machine because the RE series are a better all weather tire.
...I have RE711's by the way. The tread is identical to the 010's but I think they are a bit more softer.

For daily driving, S03s are better all around tires IMO. I've switched to S03s last year after cursing the short lifespan of the RE010s (only 17K miles). At first I really liked the smoother feel of the S03s. Much more durable (I'm up to 15K + miles on them and they still have a lot of tread), felt like more rubber on the road (a bit less road noise), better certainly on wet / and maybe dry. Lately though I've been missing my RE010s mostly because I remember them to they feel lighter and perhaps more responsive - sharper on turns. May be just a perception, but both are good tires.
SO-3's. I've run them both. RE010's were great back in the day and are still pretty comparable, but just aren't as good all around for the price.

Sure you dont have that backwards???
I would go with the RE010's. If they made the S03's in the correct size, I would consider them, but when you go wider you lose turn-in, and with a lower profile it makes the fender gab too big.
Edit: I'm thinking for my next set, either going with another set of RE010's or a set of BFGoodrich's g-Force T/A. Tirerack rates the dry grip at 9.6/10

RE-010 on stock wheels (195/55/15)
S-03 on anything larger than 6.5" width-ed wheels. (205/50/15)
RE-010 feel just right on the stock wheels. Nothing comes close when put on the stock wheels, it was designed for the R.

Exactly. I couldn't have said it better myself.

I've asked myself this question many times - I have S03's (195/50) right now, but I'm definately considering going back to the RE010's - the car just seemed more balanced and stable on the RE's... The price sucks though.
S03's are awesome tires though - I have over 25K miles on mine, and they are still going strong (almost bald though) - still rock in the rain.
Well I've got a few months to mull it over - time to mount up the snows and steelies anyway

If the fenderwell gap quite noticable if you go w/ 195/50's?

Here's my stock R with freshly mounted 195/50 S03's - the gap is larger, but it's not that bad...
The 195/50 So3's give TONS of steering feel FYI (especially without power steering
)
Problem is, they also make the car twitchier as well... Sidewalls are shorter and stiff as hell though.
(I still haven't decided)

hey how would you compare the tires that come stock on the new evo8 VS. S03? i put 17" s03's on my moms 328i (LOVE them) and my brother just got a new evo8 last week, we were having a debate of how either tyre would vary performance on the same car??????? any thoughts
cliff notes: how do tyres that come stock on the new EVO's(forgot what theyre called) compare to s03's?

205/50's here on stockies. Have no complaints. Great traciton all around but in the Rain the S03's are
!
Getting to be that time though, Time for more Azenis(the price is so right).

That's what I run. I'm sure 205/50's could prove to feel a little sloppy on stock rims, but in 195/50 my SO-3's feel pretty darn crisp and grip better than the RE-010's.
The new tire I'm looking at is the Eagle GDS3's (maybe GSD3's, something like that).

Wow, there's definitely mixed emotions on this board about these two tires. Overall I think I've heard more of a reason to go with the RE's than the S0-3's. Maybe I'm wrong, but these tires were designed for our cars, I'll just stick w/ what works. Unless..........there's a way to get S0-3's in 195/55/15. I know they make them overseas, any way to get em over here?
just keep in mind that S-03's are noticeably better in wet weather. I think that the RE's have slightly more ultimate dry grip, but they wear faster... Both are good tires (and you won't make a bad choice with either one). The only other tire I would consider is the Yokohama Es100's - alot cheaper, longer lasting, but not quite as much grip.

which has most grip:

well compared to RE010's, (and I'm sure S03's though no direct experience) Azenis will have the most grip... but Azenis on a stock R wheel have strange steering response, because they are so WIDE
they just don't last long... not when you're going to the track and auto-x occasionally at least. my Azenis have seen a couple months of street driving, 2 days of track at ITR Expo, 2 days at the track this weekend, and one day of autocross and are starting to get pretty low.
i've been contemplating the S03's in a 195/50 too, but damn the R looks like a 4x4 in that picture above - which is what I kind of figured would happen

re010 two track days and i killed pretty much, i'd go with S-03 for street but on track those tires are shitty, get some realytrack tires for it like A032 or RA1
I currently have S-03's. it's lightly raining right now, just came back from an adrenalin rushed 5 minute run, zipping though turns and dropping the clutch at any chance, obviously without risking anything stupid. those S-03's are the best tires I've ever had. of couse, my previous azenis were stickier in the dry but the fact that it was slip and slide during rain made me change for something safer. I have to promote these S-03's, they do an incredible job, I'm impressed. hope this helps.
