Alright, here's a question for all you car geniuses out there. My clutch recently went out (turns out huge shards of my clutch disc had broken off), and to replace it I have of course removed my transmission. Now, before my clutch went out, the transmission was grinding into third gear, but it seemed to work very well other than that. My money is on the third gear synchro starting to fail. I have asked around, and most people say it would be easier just to get a new or rebuilt transmission and just put that in, instead of fixiing the old one. This is a honda prelude 1993 si transmission ( the exact model number escapes me right now) with 166800 miles on it. Now, should I attempt the rebuild/repair (keeping in mind my helms won't be in for 4 weeks, if it even goes through the process), or should I just go for a newer tranny, AND if I should go newer, where is a good place to go (Either on the net or in colorado, preferably) to get one. THank you very much for the help, because I am at an impass right now.
What plans do you have for the car ? If its a daily driven car just get a nice clutch and flywheel combo and get the 3rd gear repaired or replace. I don't see why you should replace the whole transmission or spend more money on the tranny unless you Road or drag race... Keep it simple

Yeah, that makes total sense, thank you. Right now I just want my car running again...and I AM planning to do the vtec conversion in the future...that would be as good time to change the transmission as any...alright, thank you for the advice
there is a bunch of guyz here useing some tranny fluid called gm synchromesh from your local gm dealer that will make you 3rd gear stop grinding. run a search for gm synchromesh threads you'll see what they all have said. there was one 2 days ago actually.
