Brand name cold air intake vs the no name...
Well I am trying to build up my SOHC Civic and people say starting out with cold air intake is the way to do it. For I have really no knowledge on the subject and I was wondering if you guys could help me out. Should I go out and blow 150-200 for the AEM or just get the Ebay brand for 70$ shipped? Is their really that much of a difference..? Sorry guys if I seem dumb its just im kind of car illiterate and I want to get into the whole civic scene...
BTW: I searched the forums for related topics none quite sounded like mine so plz dont flame me

if you are planning on a turbo like your sig says, just save your money you were going to spend on an intake. you wont need it later and it wont really do much for you anyway.
you can find a basic used homemade turbo kit for your car on H-T for about 1k. thats going to be the best bang for your buck you could do.

If the diameter is the same, then the performance difference is going to be close to none.
Just make sure you use a quality filter, the ones often shipped with those knock-off kits are pretty sub-par.

go with a k&n or apexi.
personally i really like the quality of apexi filters, but they are kinda
expensive.

if you is going to get an short ram...take off the air cleaner box and just find a filter then bolt it onto your stock black plastic piping...since its plastic or rubber or whatever...that shouldnt conduct much heat like the cheap autozone metal ones. cheap is the way to go...
i'm always against the big name intakes, they are all overpriced, your payin for the name everytime. you think it costs AEM anywhere near 200 dollars or more to make that intake? no ....big profit there......but thats not always bad......with big profit, they can make more and more products, etc.....like the EMS, etc....but anyways.......i've always made my own intakes, designed them my way, and its always worked out great. if you put a good filter on an ebay intake, you'll be set
i got the ebay one(bomz i believe) for $40 shipped...it works just as good as an aem in my opinion. like other said, get a cheap one, replace the filter, and get a carb sticker made if you can

I disagree with all of you guys. Haven't any of you seen dyno proven results of this intakes. If your looking for the most hp out of an intake, then a brand name is what you have to buy. If you're looking for cheap hp or just so you can say you have an intake in your mom's Toyota Camry then get a no name. It's also all about pride. Do you want to see AEM, MSD, Spoon, Mugen, DC Sportd, STR, HKS, Greddy and etc, or would you perfer no name parts.
