NHRA License questions...
Hey guys, couple quick questions regarding licenses...
Are IHRA licenses valid in other series? or do all of the events base things on the NHRA?
The reason that I ask is, I have IHRA tracks and friends more readily available than NHRA...
Also, are there some sort of certification days where people are just there to get thier license?
These are just some preliminary questions so that I know what to plan ahead for next season...
thanks for any help. and anybody with any additional questions, feel free to hijack ths thread so that we can all learn some stuff...

well.. you need to be NHRA certified at all tracks. NHRA is pretty much the gods of drag racing rules.
most people get there License on saturdays which is TEST AND TUNE DAYS. but i'm sure you can get them on other days except for major events. just go up to the towere and say you want to do runs to get your license. but 1st you need to get your physical and paper work signed from your docter stating that you are fine.
and 2nd and most importantly is to have a car that meets all the roll cage rolls and runs 9.99-7.49 if you don't have a car that runs in between those #'s then you are just wasting your time.
good luck to ya

yeah, thats what I figured... unfortunately...
the physical and the car shouldnt be a problem, its just finding the time to organize two witnesses and an NHRA official at a track that is kinda GU... (Geographically Undesireable)

thanks

your car needs to trap over 135 to get a license, call your local nhra track ask them when would be the best time. At most test and tunes there should easily be 2 people to sign off. Also, you need your chassis certified, you need gloves, 3 layer suite, colar, and sfi helmet, to get you r license, be sure to ask the track all that they expect you to have , so you do not waste your time... Trap over 135 or run 9.99 et or quicker. I think most Division offices will issue the license on runs slower than 9.99, as long as the mph is over 135.

Jim,
According to Englishtown, we needed to make 2 runs of 9.99seconds and quicker. We told them how to our knowledge for FWD you only needed 135mph or faster. They said they changed it to mandate 2 9second passes. He made the passes no problem but it put alot of extra stress on him as at the time the car was a 9.90 car but at 140+ so he needed perfect runs.
So I guess it comes down to what track you run at and if they will sign off for you on a 135mph+ pass or if they require the 9.99 timeslip.

I am curious also because i will be geting my liscense soon, and will only be able to make 135+ passes FOR NOW. If they tell me i have to make 9.99 passes, then i might have to wait a little.

I did my license testing at island dragway. Went on a race day. Got all 6 runs in, my two quickest runs were 10.80s at 139. The track official didn't inderstand the 135 rule but signed off on it anyways. My license just came in the mail. Brian
Hopefully the etown officials will understand. Was their inspection of all the safety equipment thorough? as in, they made sure u had every little thing?

Telling you Ron E-Town will not sign off unless it's 2 9second runs....
