Default Cheap *** Ebay Short-Rams

Hey guys

Some of you may know I'm swapping my 89 CRX Si in a week or so over to a D16Z6

Along comes with it an MSD Ignition and a Chikara 4-2-1 header and a Fields AFC-VTEC controller. Car is still utilizing stock boxed intake.

I am not about to drop 150 bucks on an AEM CAI, do any of you guys recommend just buying one of those cheap knockoff Short rams off ebay untill I can go something better?

Obviously I'm trying to minimize costs as much as possible becausing im saving for a rebuild on my Z, but just trying to figure out if its going to be worth my time to even purchase a cheap short ram, or just stick with the stock box for the time being

Any other cheap/effective mods you guys can recommend?

If you are wanting to go cold air and just not wanting to spend the money, i have seen countless amounts of aem style cold airs on ebay for under $40. Just a thought.

I would suggest one of these if you are getting a short ram:

You could always go with the short ram arm and do BSQ's homemade IceBox intake.

i put a k&n drop in in my airbox and cut the bottom of the box off, and made a little scoop thing that goes on the bottom of my car behind my bumper that makes more air go through the hole left in the engine bay. works great

yes, i have a few friends that bought them, its a 3"pipe w/ a cone filter. None of my friends ahve ever had a problem. i would never shell out 160 for a piece of pipe and a filter but i guess thats just me. i Think it is well worth the money you would spend

if your low on funds, or dont wanna spend much, get the cheap intakes off ebay and put a good filter on it. most of the time the filter that comes with them is crap.

dont even bother getting a intake .. do you really believe in your heart that your gonna get any type of gains worth 50 bucks or whatever. i doubt it. save your money for your rebuild and you will be that much closer to real power.

Exactly. Those cheap intakes on ebay have truly sh!tty filters on them. I don't understand why people don't think about the quality of filter they stick on their cars.

Hold a true K&N up to the light then hold a cheapo ebay filter up to the light. You'll see what I mean.

I DO have real power

It lies in my Stage 3+ Twin Turbo 300ZX

ehheheheh

I just figured since I already had a header with the swap I might as well add an intake, you know, just to fit in with the local ricers

Well, my setup is my bro's old rs akimoto intake with an HKS filter. I got the pipe for free, the filter on ebay for 20 shipped and a new filter element for 20 from Nopi. I know you cant get a pipe from ebay for really cheap but as these guys said the filters are CRAP. So just get the pipe then get a quality filter like a HKS, Apexi, or K&N.

auto zone sells those 3 inch intake pipes for 5th gens for $40. and you can order a real k and n air filter par number e-1009 for it for $53.97 shipped to your door thru ajusa.com. be sure to order a filter for a 2002 gmc envoy 4.2. i had to relocate my battery tho.

Anyone know if the J's Racing Intake pipe fits in the civics/crx's? It says they only make them for the 92+ cars and the pic they posted was a ZC in a 92 hatch... Think it will fit in a 90 dx with a zc?

I 2nd the make your own. Find a good filter, and if you have access whip up some mandrel bent tubes.
I've got a HKS intake system, but I want to completely lose the rubber tubing on my intake.
I'll possible make it cold air and then be able to shorten it to short ram when needed...

it touches everything on my EG , it couldnt be any tighter and still fit in.

relocating the battery is a must , after that it may fit...
