Default really hard to start really rough idle

I have an 84 crx with an EW1 engine, carbuerated, and today I tried to start it after class today and it cranks and fires but it doesnt seem like its getting fuel to the cylinder. I can sit there for a while and gas it while i hold the starter on and it'll slowly start to fire and combust intermittently and eventually start up. After it starts up I have to give it a lot of gas to keep it running before it will stay running, and if I can get it running it idles very roughly; it feels like its missing occasionally. I don't know what this could be: fuel filter? carb adjustments? electrical?.....Please help!!!!

Bump / Update. I replaced the in-bay fuel filter, car started fine after that and ran well for a while. I shut the car off and left for a while; when I came back it was tough to start and had the same problem. So I don't know what to think, my dad thinks it could be the pickup in the distributor????
any help out there?

it most likely maybe the ignition system. plugs, distributor and cap, ignitor, plug wires.

Start sorting through all those horrible vacuum hoses. Those engines kind of blow. You should convert to fuel injected. Could probably find a junked si or 87 teg for cheap. By the way if you need an engine I got an EW4 just waiting to go into your ride.

hmm yeah, pulled and checked all the plugs, cleaned em up and regapped em, also i checked cap and rotor, all seemed to be good, plug wires are about 1.5 years old, wouldnt think itd be them. coil perhaps? and in regards to the vac lines, what should i be looking for? jsut like disconnected lines and that sorta thing?
thanks

Get a manual if you are going to diagnose the problem, or swap to FI. I really think its a vacuum leak. Check condition of all vacuum hoses and make sure all sensors can hold a vacuum. Consult manual on how to do all of this. Enjoy, hehehe.
