Default just installed shocks/springs... ride is bouncy as hell... help!

I have a 1990 Integra and I just had sum Ground Control Coilovers (350F/300R) and some Tokico Illuminas installed onto my car by a reputable shop.

The car is lowered about 1" all around and the shocks are all set at 5.

The ride is bouncy as hell... any little unevenness in the road and the car starts bouncing around, i was going about 80mph on the highway, hit a uneven surface and i felt like my car was gonna lift off the ground...

The shocks and the springs are all brand new... bumpstops were cut 1/2... anyone know what could be wrong with my setup? it almost feels like the sohcks arent doing anything at all

Are you sure they aren't on 1 instead of 5? I'd try adusting the shocks because that's clearly where the problem lies. If you can't get them to harden up, take em back, they sold you blown shocks....

setting shocks to stuff will make the ride bouncy. Set the shocks to a lower setting(softening them) and that will fix your problem.

hmm... so i want them on a softer setting to avoid bouncyness?

ok, so i have heard mixed facts about this... which is the stiffest setting? 1 or 5?

5 is the stiffest, 1 is the softest.

My rex was set to 4 in front, 5 in the rear... No bounce...

Also, IMO the 1-3 settings are useless. Far too soft, u'll be bouncing down the road for miles after hitting a pebble. 4-5 is where it's at on the illuminas for a performance ride. 3 might be acceptable if you like a dainty ride.

Oh and to answer your question...

Soft = Bouncy
Firm = Harsh.

I think he is calling stiffness bouncy. I kept my back at 3 and the front at 2 most of the time unless I wanted to drive crazy and then I would set them to 4 and 5.

i consider soft to be all bouncy... and i consider stiff to be not bouncy... is that the right way of thinking about it?

suspension stuff confuses the hell out of me for sum reason.

i just tried adjusting my fronts to 3 and it seems to be bouncing a little less... so now when i get a chance to take apart the whole rear panel im gonna try adjusting the rears to 3 also and i'll let u all know...

question: performance-wise... do i want stiffer in the back or in the front?
EDIT: NM, i found this great site with info on what every mod will do to your understeer/oversteer... http://users.telenet.be/miata/...n.htm

i think the best way to eliminate bounce is to go with double adjustable shocks, and set the rebound to stiff. you also have to consider whether or not the car and shocks are under or over sprung.

remember that springs absorb the bumps of the road and that the socks absorb the springs motion...

then you can see that a bouncy car has too soft a shock...

and a hard stiff car has a firm enough shock...

fairly simplist - i know, but gives a approximate picture...

go here for details: http://www.turnfast.com/tech_h...lasso

for that site!

PROBLEM SOLVED...

SOLUTION= im a dumbfuck

i was under the impression that the shocks werent dampening the springs... when what was actually going on was that they were REALLY dampening them and that i was feeling every groove and uneveness of the road...

the guy at the installation shop made me see the light

so i jsut adjusted them to 3 and its a great ride in teh city now... deff gonna go back up to 3 when i hit up a highway on a road trip tho
