Default cam seal replacement b16a1

I am going to replace my cam seal and would like to know how to do it. I did a search but all i got was "just take off the valve cover and pop the old seal off". I'd like a little more detail than that. Plus don't you have to take off the cam too?

You will have to remove the cam holders to be able to remove the cam seal. You do not need to remove the camshaft however.

also make sure you tq it back down to proper specs and dont break it.. non replaceable. not to make you nervous or anything. Its really easy as said about take off the vavle cover and take off the end cap pop it out and finish in reverse order.

Sorry to bring back this old thread, but can anyone explain what they mean by the "cam holders" and the "end cap"? Do they mean the bars that run on top of the cams?

I don't mean to ask for my hand to be held through this, but can someone give step by step instructions on how they replaced their cam seal? Torque specs would be great as well. Thanks.

assuming you know how to take the valve cover off. you will see two bars, take the one off of the exhaust side(closet to you should have 12 bolts holding it, remove starting in the center then X back and forth across each side breaking each bolt loose including the one on the cam cap) remove bar and cap. install new seal, then put cap back on. start boling in the center then go to the left tighten two then go opp. side of the center 2 then left right left right each side of center. all of the bolts holding on the bar will be 20ft lbs(apply oil to threads) and the cam cap and little bolts will be 7.2 ft lbs. apply liquid gasket to the tight corners of the cam caps where the gasket on the valve cover forms a 90 degree angle, install valve cover and gasket, tq cover nuts at 7.2ft lbs in two or three steps starting in the center of the valve cover
