Default ***A BREAKIN IN MY CAR SPARKED A COOL IDEA: need tech gurus!!!***

my car got broken into Friday afternoon, in the parking lot of my job, and in broad daylight....they broke my passenger side window and stole my stereo, popped the trunk, and stole my system and amp... which resparked an idea i've had for an alarm system for some time... (BTW, i had an alarm on the car, and also a steering wheel lock..if they would have touched my motor i would have personally hunted them down.. )

all the alarms i've come across all have the same boring as siren to them...and becuase of this, we've become "desensitized" when we hear them...

so i was wondering, what if we could personalize our own alarms? i mean, if we could record a message (electronically) and have it playback when the alarm goes off, i'm sure that would catch a lot of attention!

"hey u farkers, quit tying to break into me!! hep!!"...i'm sure that would turn alot of heads...

so, how difficult would it be to setup a system like this with a current alarm? c'mon tech guys, electrical engineers, or whoever..let's get some answers to this..i'm sure EVERYONE could benefit from something like this..

DEI makes one

I thought about getting the "programmable one" where you could switch it from English to Spanish... people around my car may not understand what the alarm is saying, but it would sure as hell get attention!

Why not just get the 2way that lets you know when something's happening to your car?

There are a lot of good companies out there that have paging enabled with their car alarms. The good ones have small LCD screens on their pagers(tell you how your car is being messed with), and also tell you when your outta range of your paging ability.

cool..i didn't know a company had one already..
and as for paging alarms, i actually had one on my car before...but i had to take it off becuase it didn't interact too well w/ my door system..(99 Civics have automatic door locking mechanisms that lock the doors after like 30sec...my alarm somehow kept going off when this happened)..

I have a pager alarm and its sooooooooooooooooo overated. Basically, if you're inside a building, you will get no reception. The distance these companies claim only applies if you're in an open field. Most likely, you'll be inside while your car is outdoors.

fyi, i have a matrix rs3.

Yes they already make talking alarms. And you already can personalize the siren sounds on most alarms.

I have the compustar.org and its great, the range is far and the signal goes thru most houses and small buildings and will work from one end of the block to the other end.

No compliants here, just besure to have any alarm installed righ the first time.

Why aren't companies allowed to make alarms that can actually call you on your cell phone? I see no good reason why not. We need to one-up thieves any way we can

Cost no one would want to pay for an open cell line that isn't being used. It is the same reason tracking devices sre having such a rough time.

About ur question, several companies make talking alarms problem was after a couple of yrs in the heat u would have problems with the voice module going bad.(slurred speech or skrew sounding) As far as ur 30sec door lock issue that could have alot to do with the install , 99civ Alpine makes the factory alarm for ur car ............long story short ur alarm was seeing neg pulse to lock the door u can either fix the alarm or diod isolate the door locks out of the after market alarm. 2 other things to think about r mercury switch 4 hood an back up battery,,,,,,,,,u can add AIR horns 2 ur alarm an it will bring PLENTY of attention.
