Default VAFC settings - built motor

B18c1 - Sleeved 84mm, 12.5.1 JE pistons, Skunk2 valve springs, retainers, IM, Stage II cams, .5mm over-sized ferrea valves, AEM fpr and fuel rail, Comptech 4-2-1 header (I know its small - getting a header-tech soon) Type R exhaust (also upgrading soon). Now with RC 310 injectors stock gsr fuel pump, what should the fuel pressure be set at and should he lean it out with the vafc (if so how much?). He has a Walbro 255hp fuel pump. Should this be installed?? This is a brand new freshly built motor. Give us a hand guys.. Thanks in advance!!

How should we know? What ECU is the car running? Go through the break in period then get it on a dyno and find out and tune it.

Shoot. Im sorry. I left out the most important info. It is a Stock GSR ecu. I just wanted to know what would be the safest for the break in. I was trying so hard not leave out any info in the post.

If you are running the Skunk2 IM I would atleast get a chipped P28. The stock GSR ECU with the VAFC set @ 0 will be fine for the break in. Obviously I would recomend Hondata, but atleast get a chipped P28 and fine tune with VAFC on dyno.

Ok. Thanks for the replies. Planning on hondata with the new header and exhaust after break in. SO you say leave everything at ZERO across the board?? What do you think about insatalling that fuel pump?? I hear the Header-tech headers demand allot of fuel.. Thanks again..

If you are running 310's run it at -10 till you go to the dyno, set fuel pressure at 45 psi, if you leave the afc at 0 you will run rich, just dont beat on it till you get a wideband on it... Jason

Also running 12.5:1 compression and Skunk2 stage 2 cams. I'd rather be safe and run a little rich on the break in.

The narrow throttle opening used during early break-in should have the ECU in closed-loop, so it will be attempting to compensate for any overly-rich or lean conditions anyway.

a little rich might wash down the cylinder walls, with 310cc injectors -10 is gonna be in the ball park and is not dangerous, hell from the factory the motor is run leaner than, what -10 is gonna do with 310's.....

Either way you go it's going to run rich. For the break in period though the "washing effect" isn't really going to take place. I mean as long as the car is running lean enough to actually "run" and not bog and die all over teh place. You'll be fine. The washing effect is a long term effect. I mean hell I ran pig rich for over 6 months and after tuning I did a compression and leak down and saw 225 across the board and .-02 diff on the leak down.

Understandable. This is true. Technically anything can happen. Just rather have to worry about a little extra fuel then a little detonation that's all. Like you said you never know what can happen.

Thank you guys for all the replies. We went for an in between and set everything at -5 and put the fuel pressure to 48psi and set the timing to 14 degrees. Should we install that walbro 255lph pump after the new header and exhuast and before the tuning (hondata), or is it not even necessary. Keep them replies commin!!

I would defently do it before tunning, but it is not needed for break in.... Jason

Yeah thats what I figured even if it dumps too much fuel we can tune it down through the hondata. Great!! thanks for everything
