SHORT SHIFTER CAN KILL LIVES!!!!!!!! (READ!!!)
I just really wanted to let you guys know, hopefully this can be archived. My short shifter nearly killed me. Why? They are a terrible design, i purchased mine on eBay, Trust me, i woulda kept my stock one but the previous owner cut it to where it was 2 inches long!
After awhile of owning my short shifter (roughly 3 months) it broke on me once and sent my engine spinning passed 10k, Luckily the motor was fine but it caused my cam gear to slip.
It was documented in this thread
http://www.g2ic.com/forums/sho...74610
I was using the same short shifter because i had rethreaded it where it broke off and reused it.
Now recently (october 25th) I nearly lost my life from misshifting from 3rd gear back into second. Maybe it was all my fault, but i believe the shifter had a role into it.
It was documented here
http://www.g2ic.com/forums/sho...76095
A perfect example would be what JH4DB536 Said.
"I want to bring this fact to the attention to my fellow club members:
Thong here was driving with a 'mended' broken short shifter. This is what happens when you cut corners or take shortcuts in futile attempts to save a couple cents. I believe that "POS short shifter" with it's sloppy throw, and imprecise shifting gates is partially responsible for this mishap (misshift was the leading mechanical cause of this accident). Now you should think twice before ordering some piece of crap off ebay. It's like this; would you go cheap on your brakes or seatbelts? Hell nah this is important stuff whether u realize it or not. Your life, your car, and the lives of other people out there are at stake. I wont do any of this racing bashing now cuz it would be uncalled for at this point."
I believe misshifting could cause a loss of control, do to the fact that it can lock up ur tires if put into the wrong gear, such in my case.
In this thread i am trying to prevent my fellow racers/mechanics- whoever u call yourselves, from going through the same pain i'm going through, and more importantly saving your lives and the lives of others....

Um if your shifter broke, than I'm 99% sure that it was aluminum. And aluminum shifters are junk. I'll admit I didn't read your whole post, mainly cuz I didn't like the title
But all those ebay specials are aluminum shifters, a steel one most likely wouldn't have broken. I bought one from a place that I'll never go to because my Momo **** wouldn't tighten up on the shifter. Every time I tried to tighten it, it would just drill holes into the shaft. Which would weaken the shifter and cause it break. Thats one of my next upgrades tho, is to get rid of the POS aluminum shifter for a steel one, like a skunk2 or somethin. Then I wouldn't have to worry bout it breaking and I can actually use my Momo shift **** I bought 4 months ago...

ok so you say it wasn't because of street racing, but driver error...maybe it's because you were redlining 3rd and misshifted that your **** broke off. Maybe if you weren't in such a frenzy to get away your shifter might still be intact, as well as your car.

in my opinion all this could of been prevented by YOU in the first place.. so dont blame the short shifter in general or street racing for your stupidity.

Agreed.
btw, nice numbering...1, B, III, four?!

I have been using the same aluminum C's shifter since 1995 so the comment about aluminum shifter is straight up WRONG!!
I'm glad you made it out alive but you should expect cheap quality from a cheap product! Cheap price doesn't always mean cheap quality but in your case you got what you paid for!

street racing is teh awesome.
I think I am going to go shortcut and put broken parts on my car, mismatched tires, and then go race!
you said you probably deserved to die, well maybe not, but you did get what you paid for.
take this as a hint that street racing is bad enough, and then you throw cheap parts into the mix, that makes it worse.
you are commander of the not so smart people.
I am very glad you live far away from me, so my life is not in danger.

i bought my shorty off of ebay also
i had it for three months and the darn thing snaped in half, and the top of the shifter got suck in my ****
. i suggest not to buy a shorty from ebay unless its a brand name.

LOL..Everything on your car is broken..I see why you shifter broke. Might as well SUE EBAY!!..hahah.. blame the racing pedals too. Say you forgot to engage the clutch or hit the brakes.
Thanks for being concerned about the lives of members on this board, but I hope you dont race with your child in the backseat, cuz thats STUPID

I think this is driver error, with maybe a small percentage of shitty ebay short shifter error. I haven't had any problems with my skunk2 in the past year... in fact, I am very happy with it... It should also be noted that I haven't mis-shifted to date.
Lets put it this way, not every shifter is going to break. I'm sure its only a small percentage that do anyway. But the ones that do break are more than likely the aluminum ones. They heat up, they get stressed, my example with the momo screws from my shift **** drilling into the shaft weakens it.
The place I go to for my car stuff now doesn't even carry aluminum shifters for that reason. The place that I bought my POS shifter never heard of any of the problems I just described because he's a greedy bastard who doesn't want to acknowledge my problem and fix it.

Short shifters don't kill people, stupid people kill people... I'm so sick of people blaming everyone and their mother for their own actions, people like you are the cause of the excessive litigation in our nation

Exactly! As soon as i read "ebay shifter" i thought uh oh. Then the fact that you continued to use it AFTER it snapped made me realize this was going nowhere except to continue showing your own bad choices, sorry to break it to you.
