Hydro or cable
Double check plug or see if your cable is all fucked up after the tranny replacement

Yes, no VSS will stop vtec from enguaging. the ECU checks to see if you're going at least 20mph before it allows VTEC enguagment.

I'd say your VSS didnt get hooked back up or is fucked.

Yup, you need a VSS signal in order for the ECU to see that you're moving the wheels. VTEC will not engage unless the engine is under load. The ECU determines load by vehicle spped.

it determines load by throttle position

if you are going 50mph in 2nd gear but have it on cruise control you will be above the vtec engagment but vtec wont be on because there is little load on the motor.

I have a question about B16 lsvtecs. What are the usual specs such as displacement, compression, ponies, and torque?

you know the lsvtec isnt a stock honda engine right? they never made it from the factory

but its 1.8L, compression and horsepower numbers vary depending on how its built. anywhere from 150 to over 200

Yeah I know its a b18 block with a b16 head for the vtecness. Why did you ask? If it was a honda made engine I couldive found the specs and not asked.

there are many variables on VTEC enguagment... water temp, load and ground speed (VSS) all play a role. thats why I set mine to a static RPM in the ROM, WOT is the only time I need it anyway.

Replace the vss, your vtech and speedomiter work off the the same sensor. In order for your vtech to kick in your car has to reach a certin mph. Your ecu will not know when you have reach that mph to kick vtech over if your speedominter is not working to tell it so

Seriously. Even the noobies who are trying to "help" are spelling fundamental **** wrong . Look on your valve cover once in a while and you'll find VTEC spelled correctly.

Anyhow. Even if you have a VAFC (or VAFC2), it communicates with the ECU, which communicates with the VSS and the VTEC solenoid. If the VSS isn't working, which yours obviously isn't, VTEC is not going to work. Period. That's the problem.

Now I don't expect anymore posts from you bumbasses until you have one that says, "Thanks for the help, guys: I replaced my VSS and now everything's peachy ".

I read all through these posts...but no one mentioned anything about OIL!!!

Vtec is oil dependent...so if there isn't much oil...then it won't engage. Go check and see how much oil you have in there. My friend has a B20/vtec and no dipstick, and ran out of oil. His vtec controller would say it was on, but it wouldn't engage. It would pop for a second at 6k and the off. So go change your oil or at least check it.

Look at the simplist things first before gettin yourself too deep into what could be wrong. It's almost always something simple that can be fixed for cheap or free.

Listen, bro. His VSS isn't working which is 100% VTEC disabling. It takes a big loss of oil (more than half) to disable VTEC.
