Default Transmission Fluid Questions

Hi,
What kind of MTF do you guys recommend for an RSX type S? I'm thinking about getting HONDA MTF, but my friend recommends Redline. How many quarts will I need?
Also, any how-to's available online?
Thanks!

I believe just under 2 qts is required. I use the mobil1 synthetic gear lube, which is similar in weight to the redline.

The procedure is easy. raise the car up so that it's level (it's important that the car be level so that you can properly fill the tranny. Open the upper fill bolt first. The fill bolt is a 17mm rather large bolt about 1/3 to halfway up the driver's side of the tranny. I believe it's the only bolt that's sticking out there. If it's the first time, you'll probably need a breaker bar. Once that is open, open the lower drain bolt (the drain bolt is easy to spot, it's at the bottom of the driver's side of the tranny, and can only be turned with a 3/8" ratchet inserted directly into it (it takes the square nub on the ratchet).

Drain, replace lower fill bolt, fil with fluid until fluid reaches upper fill hole (you'll know when some starts to drip out).

You should replace all the crush washers when you do this, and you'll need a fluid pump to make life easy.

Stick with the Honda MTF. The redline MTF accelerates synchro wear, of course if you call redline they will say it does not. The problem with Redline is the fluid is too thin, and its coefficient of friction is too high. I speak from experience.

Yes just over 2.0 quarts, and while you have a chance rub a little between your fingers. It has a very gel/fluid like feeling. Its nasty to get running down your arm while trying to install a damn Spoon drain plug. I know that Honda will not warranty repairs to transmissions that have anything else in them except HMT fluid.

Redline isn't too thin. You just have to be smarter than the plastic container that the oil comes in. MT-90 is the correct viscosity for the trannies and works better than Honda MTF.
