Default Engine options for my EF

I don't know what the hell to do. My d16a6 is burning oil so I have a few options. Should I rebuild it and slap on a vtec head, swap in a d16z6, or swap in a d16y8? I'd rather stay D series thanks.

any of those choices would probably net the same results. unless you rebuilt the D16A6 with aftermarket parts

I'm just so confused. I just want the cheapest route, but I also want the engine to be strong, reliable, and good with mods. Which has the strongest bottom end, a6, z6, or y8?

they are all basically identical, but if you're not rebuilding, a y8 would most likely have the least miles

First ask where you want more power: low end , tip end, all around, etc.
The ask how much are you willing to spend. Isthe engine for a daily driver?
How far are you willing to go with the engine?
I can simply say that a stock internal d series engine responds very well to a turbo and a tunable ECU. You don't need v-tec with a turbo, the turbo will force all the air you need on the top end.

rebuild your sohc non-vtec bottom end for high compression and get an exospeed head if you want all motor...or just build up your bottom for low comp and boost that sucker, should do very well on the freeways

if your going to swap in a d series id go with the d16y8 because there known to pull extremely hard for unknown reasons. ive seen d16y8 with basic bolt ons beating b16 and b18s and putting down 140hp and up to the wheels.

i dunno about that one...at least not stock y8's with bolt ons. y8's beating b-series may be due to a number of reasons...granted, there are some motors that are more gifted than others, but with all mods stock and assuming a healthy motor, i've never seen a y8 that has more horsepower than a b-series.
