I have a ZC(d16a9) powered Del sol..

i was wondering if converting to manual steering rack and removing the AC give noticble gains on the engine? if so how much? is it worth the headache? and the workout

I didn't install the breather, because it's not necessary. It just helps steering during parking and low speeds.

was there any noticible gains? what kind of parasitic loses are experienced from the AC and PS? i mean the 16lbs it adds is pretty negligable...

but what i mean is what kinda of WHP difference will removing the two make?

4-5WHP and I prefer the handling of no powersteering vs. having it. It's just a bitch to park. For the $0 it cost me, it was definately worth it. I spent $400 on an exhaust and didn't gain that much.

Put in the manual rack. It is not hard at all, plus it is alot lighter.

not to mention working your forearms

also if done right, the car will be easier to control, IMO, in a manual steering rack car i notice that the first 2-3 inches of movment are hard, but then the more you turn, the easier it gets, which is a completly diffrent feeling from the equal-amount-of-force required in a PS car.

plus you can always brag to your friends about it

The manual rack has a **** ratio. The ratio in the stock Honda power steering rack is close to what people spend lots of $$$ on to get with a Quaife rack to replace their manual rack.

If you drive just on the street or drag race your car, then the benefits are a lot greater than just converting your exsisting PS Rack, it is easier to turn. However, if you track or autox alot then the PS>Manual combo is alot more benefical because of the ratio.

No, the ratios in the PS rack are FASTER. LESS turns lock to lock. If you are concerned with the extra strength required to turn the wheel, then you need to install the breather that I mentioned in the post with the link for the DYI. I didn't install it, the steering is fine to me as long as I use both hands.

Thats what I was saying about the ratios, on the street it is easier with the manual rack (from the Civic).
