Default F'kin balljoints!

Is it possible to replace the lower balljoint of the steering knuckle? Mine are pretty much mutilated from the knuckle being on and off so many times.

How much does a replacement job like that cost?

The very bottom balljoint is infact the only one that can be replaced. It's easy. Take the knuckle off from the car. Flip it upside down, you'll see a snap ring just above the boot of the balljoint, remove that clip. Get a 4 lbs hammer and hammer the ball joint up and out. Installation is easy also hammer it down and in, I use a little extension to get it really flush. Get it down far enough so you can see the slot for the snap ring. Once you see that slot, put on a new snap ring, and you're ready to go.

Any small car parts store can get you a replacement ball joint, it comes with new snap ring, new castle nut and cotter pin.

The balljoint on the tie rod ends requires you to replace the whole tie rod, and you'll need an alignment if you replace the tie rods. If you do that, it's best to do do both sides. The ball joint near the top (upper control arm) can not be replaced either, the whole upper arm has to be replaced.

Tie rods usually aren't too expensive, I paid $25 per side. Upper arm is usually pretty expensive $100+ from Honda.

Hope I helped.

That sounds easier than I tought it would be. I thought I had to have some specialty tools. I'll do a practice run on an old knuckle I have laying around. Thanks!
