There are a couple of good ball joint threads in the FAQs sticky. Check there.

I recently replaced both of my lower ball joints and detailed the critical information here.

since the ball joint is pressed in, what i will usually do is remove the steering knuck from the car and take it to a local shop. they press the old ball joint out and the new one in for $10. saves a lot of hassle in my opinion.

If you can find a shop to do it for $10, then that's not too bad. Note, however, that the ball joint tool and adpators are free rentals at AutoZone (fee refunded after tool return).

my way real simple...
1. take knuckle off
2. remove c clip
3. bang old one out with hammer
4. bang new one in with hammer
5. put c clip on
6. put knuckle back on
7.ENJOY

I'm telling u... Works good doesn't damage ball joint at all just take the boot off sometimes it rips... Takes 10 mins to bang out and in
