How I built a racecar in 6weeks
I realized I never made a post about the building of my car this summer. I figured you guys might enjoy a little picture and story telling about it.
1991 honda civic EF swaped to obd1 b18b motor with ys1 transmission
Modifications:
JDM b18b motor
USDM ys1 transmission
pr3 ECU chipped evidently with no redline
Exedy clutch/pressure plate
GSR Flywheel
Hasport Mounts
Custom CAI with K&N filter
Custom OBD1 wiring
USDM Type R header
Tannabe Hypermedialon exhaust
Sparco Steering wheel
Sparco Seats
G-force 5 point harnesses
VIP special Pedal covers
autometer Water temp
VDO Tach
VDO oil pressure
Kirk Racing 4 point roll cage
Battery relocated to the trunk
Koni Yellow OTS adjustable
Ground Control Springs 440F 600R
Civic si front knuckle calipers
Hawk HP+ compound brakes
Rota Slipstream Rims
Falken Azensis Tires
Sweet Name decal on side
Was an intense project very time consuming. I put in around 400 hours. MattyD (Mickey Mouse on board) threw in a very helpful 30. Chris (A fellow autocrosser) Helped out with proper harness tech. And a non car friend did some fiberglassing and encouragement.
The car is fast, handles very well, and with more setup and seat time I feel will be a super competitive regional SCCA car (needs more ponies and a good lsd to head to nationals though). It was all done for under 10 grand. It still needs the wiring to be cleaned up, and a few small coolant leaks to be fixed before its perfect, but thats for next season. It placed very well in the CMC SM races
Off the truck, damn what a hot exhaust
The thing is a beast out of the can
All Sorts of Bling Bling to put in
Crappy engine out
Pimp engine in
Fellow HT member Danger Mouse giving a helping hand getting that thing in there. He left before me and the sludge hammer smacked the **** out of the bay to get it in there
The Hell of wiring without any Hasport harnesses begins
After its finished, but boy it looks awful this will be redone

I didnt get any pics of putting the new brakes, suspension, rollcage in, but skip about 4 weeks of waiting for parts and working on the car after work and...
Name plate ON

She aint pretty but shes together

Tight fit, but worth it

Sparco is key

Not a bad cage made by the guys over at Kirk Racing

of course some bling bling

Very nice car, very much like what I have been trying to do to mine. Makes me want to ditch my sale efforts and really put in some hours over the winter to get it where I want it. My goal has been SM Solo II, hillclimbs and Solo I, NASA HDPE and SE Michigan PCA days with a very similiar setup to yours. Whenever I get close though it falls apart because I have been street driving it
Good luck to you in your efforts and thanks for some motivation

I didnt know that you could run a pr3 (vtec ecu) on a nonvtec motor...Dont you have to use a pr4? Anyway, nice set up...Mine started out that way too.

whoops yeah you are right, that is just a obd1 ls ecu, not a pr3.
The wiring was the hardest automotive challenge I have ever done. The pure amount of solder and wires needed was amazing
Matt, I will hold you soldering iron hostage until spring when you come and get a chance to drive the thing!!!!
Thanks for the kind words guys, Im quite proud of the final product, and hope to keep improving it until I come play in honda challenge

how did you attach the Sparco seats? did you use Sparco side brackets? and did you just bolt 'em to the floor or use the original seat sliders? any pics of that?

Geez...I hated doing my engine swap. Looking at those pics brings back bad memories. If you need any spare parts, you can buy mine
. Good luck!

it was actually a bit under 10 grand
Buying from the right companies, getting stuff from the junkyard, waiting for the right shell etc. Just took patience and a year of buying
RJ helped in keeping me sensible too

I admire all the work you put into it! Useful modifications of course, since it's a racecar...and a good solid motor choice all must add up to one fun ride!
By the way, do you know what model those Sparco seats are?
