Default What is the benefit of higher oil pressure ?

i just bought some small HAMP oil filters. i know these are high quality and all, but what benefit do i get by having higher oil pressure?

will i even FEEL a difference, or is it just better for the engine in terms of oil flow dynamics?

thanks!

you could actually lose power , I dont like the small filters one bit.

I like the filter the engine was designed to have.

I was told by our supplier (Acura Dealer) that the larger filters are all being fazed out and Honda is changing to the RSX size filter for all of its vehicles.

and the new filters say "Fram" on them

I will no longer purchase OEM filters , Purolator looks nice.

never heard of anyone finding filter media in any Purolator.

yep. but i think you will still be able to get the HAMP filters in the larger size. unfortunately they cost a bit more.

just because it says FRAM doesn't mean it's of the same quality as the FRAM filter you get at walmart. if i felt like searching there is a fairly recent thread on here that shows a cut profile of the OEM FRAM made S2K filter next to the walmart FRAM made S2K filter. they are very very different.

get your OEM's while there out there

I searched but couldn't find it using the keywoad 'fram'.

I did find what the North Texas Prelude club said about the fram x2:
"The FRAM x2 (and only the FRAM x2 Series) is probably the most heavily constructed filter I've seen so far. Though all of the Japanese made filters were of exceptional quality, the Fram x2 was as good in every way. Of note with the construction were the following features: metal screen backing the media, heavy metal end caps (all other Fram filters have cardboard), and 2 layer filter medium. Lab testing indicates this filter is fine at 5000 miles use with Mobil 1. As with all of the Fram filters and OEM Honda oil filters the x2 uses the standard spring loaded plastic by-pass valve that many people do not like. However, lab tests do not indicate that the valve jams or fails to work. It's possible that a hard enough impact at a sharp angle while the filter was by-passing might cause it to jam open, but I suspect the fluid within the filter would prevent this. "
http://www.ntpog.org/reviews/filters/filters.shtml

So my question is, is this new acura filter part of the X2 series or not?

the oil filters shown cut up on the post i made on that thread show the new small oem filter (15400-PLM-A02) and the fram replacement for the small oem filter (7317). clearly the oem fram is superior to the orange fram. it doesnt shown a pic of the S2000 oem filter.

the S2000 oem oil filter (15400-PCX-004) is the same size as the discontinued large 'filtech' and 'fram' oem oil filters. this oil filter is "made in japan" by toko roki that the NTPOG oil filter study praised so highly.

Since most of you take pressure readings before the filter,
if you see higher pressure due to a filter, that means that the filter is a RESTRICTION

like sgt said....pressure may be increased by creating a restriction...

but this does effect the other properties of hydraulics like volume and flow rate.

i think the smaller filters real advantage is the help in pressure drop.

because our pump speed is not constant , off throttle can sometimes see good amount of pressure drop.

If this filter creates more pressure, will that also mean the oil bypass valve will open sooner and longer on our high reving cars?

Doh I just bought five of the small ones. Can anyone confirm if these will hurt the car's performance??? If that's the case I'll just sell these. If they aren't meant for the B series then what car are they for?

It sounds like Honda is supplying this smaller filter for all Hondas now (k and B series motors). I'm assuming that they will work fine for our B series motors..

SgT made a good point that I never thought about..

This is why I have been using the MOBIL M1-104 OIL FILTER and will continue too, not much guessing about too small or not enough pressure...
Just right.
