Default Displacement Effects

Hi, another N00b question for ya'll. I tried searching for help on this but was rather unsuccessful...

Question is, is there anyway to determind the effects of a displacement boost on an engine other than dyno'ing it?

Went from 1.8L to 2.0L -- B18B1

Any resources i could look at?

what do you mean by effects? horsepower? times slips may tell you the difference if you gained any power if thats what you mean.

There may be some sort of calculator or formula for this, but... you can compare with a B20 motor. B18A/B and a B20 motors are identical in a lot of ways. The only real difference is larger bore (not sure about stroke). Power differences are only minimal, but the B20 carries a lot more torque. Granted, there are other small factors that affect the power and torque levels, like intake manifolds (B20 manifolds have significantly longer runners that favor air velocity & torque), but generally, if you boost displacement, you get more torque and more power. How much of each depends on the rest of your setup.

For the exact power differences, search "B20 power" or something similar. I can tell you I think the B20 carries about 142hp and ~130-135 ft-lbs. I don't know, I'm a nut.

Hope that helps.

yea theres definetely some kinda formula for that...the best you could do is rip apart your motor grab a micrometer and start doing some measurements...have fun doing that...

Heh I doubt the HP is anywhere NEAR proportional to displacement (obviously--duh)... If i could figure out the curve... hmmm hahaha some performance studies shall follow I suspect.

If anyone has another method, let me know!!

How about you get it dynoed, as the mathmatical formula is not always dead on because of many variables.

Only accurate way to measure is to dyno it.

It won't be the same everytime.....engine package and tuning will determine how much more power you make w/ a 2L block. Do you already have the block?
