JDM D16Y8 problem help.....
my the engine in my Auto 99 ex blew up so put in a JDM y8, yesterday I finished hooking everything up, put new oil coolant in, it started up idled at 1500, but slowly came down to normal, to 6-700, and idled like that for about half hour. At about 10:30 I decided to go for a test drive, it was kind of chilly outside, it started idling at 2000, came down to 1500. After I took a trip aroud the block, and it started the "revving" pattern going to 1500 and dropping to normal every second. Then shortly after it gave me a CEL. Today I started it up and it gave me the CEL and idled at 1500. I used the Jumper and got code 14. I unplugged the thing under the throtle body(IACV?) and plugged it back in, reset with by taking negative terminal off of the battery. After that the CEL disappeared and idle went to about 600.
I checked out the IACV on my d16z6 and it sits in the back of the manifold, for the Y8 there is just this thing with two water hoses and it sits under the TB where the Fast idle thermo valve should be ...
Is it my IACV or Fast Idle thermo valve???
are they both underneathe the Throttle body on the Y8's??
im gonna try to start up the engine tonight when it gets cold again to see what happens...

In this picture it shows the iacv and that is the way it is on my 93 ex but its not there on both of the d16y8's, JDM or USDM, where is it??
from what I was told there is, if the serial/vin starts with a "J" not a "1" that means its from Japan, or at least thats what I was told...
JDM = Japanese Domestic Market.
They don't offer a D16Y8 for sale in Japan, so its not a JDM engine.
Its meant for the US market, but all engines are made in Japan and shipped to the US. The VIN # will tell you whether the car was built in Japan or the US.

So the automatics do not have a Fast idle thermo valve???
only aicv???
btw started the car yesterday, it idled at 1500 then went down to 5-600.. I still dont trust it...
Are you absolutely sure that D16Y8 is US only I had 2 people tell me that the engine is JDM cause it has the vin beginning with J instead of 1 like both of my 93 and 99 ex's...

YES!
D16Y8 engines are ONLY sold in the US. Whether its made in Japan or not, it is only sold as a north american product. In Japan, all cars come with dual cam engines, with exception of the D15 engines.

A 1 means its was made in the us and a 2 means that it was made in canada and a 3 or J i think means that it was made in japan. Though it was made in japan its for the us marke so its not what we think of when we hear JDM.
I just did an auto to manual on my 96 so I may be able to help with the IACV problem. Did you keep your same ecu and auto tranny? When I first started my motor up I was using the auto ecu and intake manifold, and it had the crazy bouncing idle. After 5 restarts it just fixed itself. Im not sure if the ecu had to reset or there was still engine cleaner around the IACV or IM when it was started. The previous post was correct, on 96-00 auto intake manifolds, the IACV is on the throttle body and is 3 wire. On mt intake manifolds, it is on the back of the intake manifold and is 2 wire. Again, the idle problem fixed itself, I later had to swap the intake manifold and ecu, and rewire for the iacv difference, to finally get rid of the CELS from the auto tranny. Keep driving it, it may clear up by itself like mine did. Or I would swap intake manifolds back to your old one.
