HIDs...Legal or not???
just wondering if anyone knows why they are illegal??...i've they are illegal now...but do not know why...im not even sure if im in the right forum to ask this question?!?
i heard that in august, it was illegal for hid kit manufacturers like catz or mcolluch (sp?) to make kits for cars. so that it would fit a d2s or d2r style bulb into factory h4 (for example) housings. because the reflective properties of the stock lenses do not promote a clean cutoff line like of that found in oem HID headlights, and just produces more glare and becomes a problem for oncoming drivers. this is just what i've read long ago. its probably availalbe in the search but if anyone wants to add, feel free...

Aftermarket projectors are the worst headl igth upgrade even with stock headlights......its worse with HID's.
HID's on non HID cars have always been illegal but if you aim the head lights properly, try to get the cleanest cut-off possible (various ways of doing this....retro fits right down to aftermarket headlights with projectors) the police won't stop you (helps if you have a kit that is a true 600k kit or lower).
the color will tip police off (those 8000k kits and above) and if they aren't aim'd properly or put in headlights with shield adapters to help with the light cutoff.

cut off is the upper edge of the lit area
- some hids throw light everywhere (blinding to oncoming traffic) due to high or un even cutoff. Projectors tend to have a very sharp straight line between whats lit and whats not

OEM HID projectors have the best cut-off because they were designed with HID lighting. Aftermarket projectors suck ***.
