Default Passing emissions

My friend has a 96' gsr with many mods such as I/H/E, Type-R cams(don't know CTR or ITR), cam gears and he wasn't able to pass emissions so he is taking most of the stuff off.

Will I be able to pass emissions with an I/H/E and high flow cat combo?
Intake: AEM CAI, Header: JDM 4-1, Exhaust: Apexi WS, Carsound cat

Yes.

Sorry, just noticed where you're from. Not sure about Cali, but here in NC you'd have no problems.

when you say your friend didn't pass, which test did he not pass? The visual or sniffer?

Hmm.. good question. gotta ask him. Whats the visual inspection consist of? Looking over and under the car? Mods have to be carb legal right?

I did a smog on my CRX that I used to have and they didn't even look at anything and just ran the thing.

when I had my civic, I had a hellava time trying to smog it. The thing had the basic header, exhaust & custom intake. Nobody wanted anything to do w/ my car as soon as they popped the h00d

The same with me I used to live in San Diego. And I had a hard time finding a place to smog my car. They wouldn't even do it just because of the visual. But here in nc all you need is a vafc and lean it out. I passed over here with jun cams.

You can pass.

I did with: Mugen 4-1, Mugen Catback, AEM, Cam Gears, Underdrive Crank Pulley

Of course, the place I went to was kinda shady... Look for an add for a low-cost place. They may try to stiff you (they sniffed my car twice since it was cold and the cat wasn't at operating temp yet) with a re-test, but it at least LOOKS legit on paper.

FWIW - once my cat warmed up, I passed the sniffer in the bottom 20% of all cars (i.e. if the range is 1-100ppm and the average car is at 50ppm, I was at 19ppm or so).

My visual inspection just illicited the comment, "Izzat a header? Nice..."

YMMV
