I hit the rev limiter today
This is the first time I ever hit the rev limiter, and it sounds horrible!!!
The engine made two high pitch reving noise, the tad was at 8200 +
Is this harmful to the engine?
And how often do you guys hit the limiter?

I do it every once in a while. It's not harmful (unless you do it for 5 minutes in one gear) but it should not make any noises. Tach should read around 8200 but it is very inaccurate. Actual fuel cut is 7700 rpms.

Did you miss a shift?
I'd imagine the high pitched reving noises you heard was the fuel cut doing it's job twice (with that tach needle bouncing off 8,100) while you were still at wide open throttle.

yeah, I think it actually did the job twice.
it sounds like this "vrooommmmmm, and then suddenly vroomm, vroommmmm", right before I let off the throttle
I felt quite stupid afterwards, how could I forget to shift?

It's not that bad for your engine if you aren't running any kind of forced induction or anything. If you hit the rev limiter while under boost from a turbo, supercharger or N2O, then you've got BIG problems
. When that happens, detonation really lives up to its name!
