insurance hike question
I have my motorcycle insurance thru GMAC on my f4i (only the bike is on the policy). I started the policy about a month ago and am paying about $750/yr. I paid the entire yr upfront and i got the policy papers and everything. Then a couple days ago, they send me an ammendment saying that the rate is now $1300+/yr even though there has been nothing changed in the last month.
Is that even legal? I bought something and signed the paperwork and everything and then they change the price on me? Doesn't sound like legit business practice...but then again this is insurance. I tried calling customer support but they're closed for the night. I'm just peeved that they can change things up like this. Just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else and what, if anything, can be done about it. TIA.

Crap, I just checked with the CA insurance commission and they have a 60 day window to change your policy. I guess I'm screwed...time to shop for a new insurance company
If you paid upfront for a year, i would make them honor the price they charged you... either that or demand a refund and tell them you are going somewhere else due to the unjst way they handled the situation
depends.
did they tell you that the right may change if information that you give them turns out to be incorrect?
examples: you state, no violation, but turns out there are violations on your mvr.. or, you gave zip code 12345, but it's actually 23456, etc...
i would ask GMAC what caused the rate change...they have to tell you.

I called GMAC and found out there was a speeding ticket I got a couple years back in another state. Oh well, I'm changing over to State Farm insurance instead.

Nope...I heard the same and that's why I originally went with GMAC. I called up a State Farm agent per a friend's recommendation and got just the bike insured (no car necssary under policy) and it's about 1/2 of the GMAC price.
