Default gadam stolen car and insurance company!!! AAARRRRGGHHHH

im going crazy with my insurance company, dont want to mention names (hint - sounds like great charm ) but im going crazy. i supplied over 6k in receipts and they did not review ONE. just gave me a good value on the car and called it a day.

should i let it drop? are they entitled to cover vehicle upgrades? i never added upgrades to my policy, but i do have all receipts. they want me to hand over title asap... but i dont want to give in just yet. they wont cover amp and speakers, vafc, ecu, gauges, susp stuff.. NUTTIN. damn what a loss.

ive heard mixed opinions, some say im entitled.. others say not at all.

does anyone know for sure???

TIA...

p.s. word of advice, dont get your car stolen...

I asked my ins co. and they said they cover ONLY UP TO $1000 of additional parts, custom stuff, whatever.

I have since upgraded to have the max possible they will cover, $3000 of additional equipment.

I suggest you all do this upgrade, it will cost you little , but there is no other way you will get a dime for your parts up an dover $1000 from an ins. co. in a situation like the above.

well, Leo95SE, best of luck....

If upgrades is an optional thing that you didn't pay for, then they are not obligated to cover those.

I'd still try as hard as I can. Tell us what their reply was about the upgrades.

I'm sorry about your loss. It's a painful feeling, I know.

Let me try to rationalize this from the insurance company's perspective... say you have a beater that's worth $500. The insurance company will probably give you a cheap rate for the comprehensive part, thinking that if it's stolen, they'll only have to pay you $500. However, if you had $10000 worth of stereo equipment in that $500 car (not too unusual of a situation, actually) and you didn't tell them that you wanted it insured, they still think that they're only insuring a $500 car, not a $10500 car. Sorry...

It's going to be a tough battle.
In addition to reciepts, bring pics of the car if you have them when you see the adjuster.

That really sucks man.
I was lucky when I had $1200 worth of stereo equip. stolen from my civic they covered it all without receipts, but their was much evidence that the equipment had been there, all the wiring was there and they ripped my dash open to get my head unit out. So insurance covered my dash panel also. Only receipt I had was for the head unit and radar detector and a two cases of mobil one in the trunk. They didn't cover the oil, or radar detector. At least they covered the rest of it without hassle, but funny thing is I ended up paying for the dang broken window because the cost of the window was less than the deductible.

Your insurance company is entitled to cover the value of your car and what ever is physically bolted to the car is considered a part of the car.

well, if ur car was stolen, then yeah. they are suppose to cover it. cause you do have a receipt.

if they dont cover it, then i suggest u get a lawyer. even tough the lawyer well take half of ur 6k, its better then nothing.

or, just stip the car and put everything back to stock.

I work for an insurance company and actually, they are not required to cover all the aftermarket stuff in the car. That is actually an option if they wish to write you a check for it or not. If you take out the extra coverage for the after market stuff than yes they are required to cover to whatever amount you state. V-AFC, Boost conrollers, anything on the pillars, and so on... They insurance company won't care... Its a sad world for the import scene but its the truth. Also I got my car stolen b4 too and I was able to get the insurance company to fork over a check so I can fix up my car... and it was a pretty nice check to fix up my car...

Depends on what the contract states. As ALL insurace comapnies are cxnts (and may they all rot in hell) they are noy obliged to offer you anything other than the small print. You may be covered on home contents insurance or even credit cards if you bought the stuff recently. Good luck and dont give up, they will string you along and hope you stop shouting....DONT.

Good luck
