Default Stock Retainers?!?!?!

I'm gonna be putting Skunk2 valvesprings on with my stock Retainers in my GS-R. Will I be ok revving to 9000rpm with the stock retainers with Skunk2 stage 1 cams?

I heard the GS-R has the same retainers as the Type-R one. Is this correct?

Let me know. Thanks.

your stage 1's make power all the way to 9000rpms ?

And B16a2, B18C1, B18C5, the retainers are all the same. You will be just fine, in really high rpm use you will see OE retainers break (not as strong as TI) but with stage I's, this shouldnt be the case.

Why skunk2 valvesprings? Why not just ITR inners, oe retainers, and call it a day ?

yup that is correct. I would get new keepers and maybe just buy new retainers for the hell of it. they are only 30 dollars or so, its cheap insurance

I wouldn't (again). Broke a stock retainer with ITR cams in a GSR motor revving to 9,000 rpm. The motor ran great for about 6 months, but when the retainer split, it was ugly!

About 15k on the retainers-stock GSR springs. #3 intake retainer broke.

ITR intake springs may have prevented the failure-who knows...

dont go by"i knew someone and their motor was fine" or "it was fine in my motor"...all motors are different and peoples driving habbits also differ,,get the TI retainers..(cheap insurance) spend 150 now save possibly thousands later

I have no idea. We'll find out once I Dyno tune my car after everything else. I know for sure my car makes power past the stock redline tho.

You'd be surprised. I only raised my limit to 8500 and it doesn't do much for me. I still shift at 8k cause the power falls off. (oh yeah this is on my gsr with sk2's stage 1).

You taking back to DSR to tune?

if you were revving to 9k you were getting valve float. that will then transmit alot of the energy to the retainer and cause it to wiggle

One of my stock retainers cracked as well, but it didn't break completely, I now have Ti's but still worried about galling...

that's not a pretty picture.

I already ordered my Titanium Retainers after hearing the horror stories. Pay $150.00 right now and save me $1500.00 later.
