Default Dyno of my latest Civic motor...

After some difficulty documented here https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=641908 ) I got another engine built and tuned by Shawn Church-C_A_T on this board. It put down 166.3 ft-lbs of torque and 246.3 HP on Shawn's DynaPack through a stock ITR muffler. Then for kicks C_A_T put his "magic dyno intake" on the car and it picked up another 13 HP, the graph you see here:

Import Builders spec Wiseco pistons-Toda 'D's-GSR crank-ITR head ported by Portflow and combustion chambers welded by Joe Alaniz.

The car is still a "B19coupe" , barely at 1979cc's. Will have to change my username to B20coupe if I go to 86mm bore

Beautiful! Good show...I bet that cost a pretty penny. What type of car is this engine in?

And what is this dyno intake you speak of? Open throttle body?

nice power

Torque curve is "spikey" due to the scale on the graph. "Normal" dyno charts usually go in increments of 10, rather than 2. The intake used was an ITR AEM CAI. It's cut off at about the distributor so that a filter can be run under the hood if it rains hard-that's where C_A_T hooked his "magic" intake up. The magic intake is just a straight piece of 3" tube aluminum flared like a trumpet at the end. It moved the intake hump up about 500 rpm.

damn, real nice numbers Using a velocity stack in your intake made that much more power? I have to say, I am quite impressed with that dyno chart!

and any reason why u didnt "dump" the muffler, even just once to see how much power you WOULD pick up w/o it? Of course being tuned for teh muffler isn't gonna let u show the max gain of being tuned w/o a muffler, But im curious how much power is to be had w open exhaust on a 13.5:1 motor.

C_A_T has neighbors, so he can only tune open header during certain hours. Due to scheduling restrictions (mine, his) yesterday was really the only time he could give me the 2-3 hours necessary to fully tune the car.

Around 230-240 on a DynoJet.

This motor has a lot more power in it. The initial results (246 hp) were about what I would have expected, maybe a little better considering the muffler.

But when we put the intake on the gains were much bigger than I've seen before. That tells me that the car is corked up on the intake side, and probably on the exhaust side too. I would expect something closer to 270-275 fully freed up.

And usually you can subtract 10-15 hp to equate Dynapack to Dynojet results, but there are other variables involved such as ramp time and wheel weight. The lighter the wheels, the closer the results will be.

BTW, I was surprised at how well this car idled. I said as much to B19coupe. If any of you want tips on getting massive cams (Toda D's in this case) to idle cleanly, drop him a line - I didn't have to do any work on that aspect.

HyTech big tube header. Looking to run the car at Pomona this weekend (open header). Now that the motor is putting down the kind of power that I was looking for, it's time to start playing with the chassis to get the 60's down. And as C_A_T pointed out, there is more power to be had from the motor. The motor is capable of flowing more- it just needs to be freed up some on the intake side.
