Default Steering problems, gap in the middle.

I know this may be a little out of place, seeing as how this is HONDA-tech and not CHRYSLER-tech, but I figured if anyone would know, it would be the people over here at h-t.com, and this is more of a general car question than just a "my car" question . OK, so my poor little worn out LeBaron has a steering problem. I haven't been able to find anything online about it but there's some sort of gap in the middle of the steering. So, in order to make a minor adjustment you have to turn the wheel a whole half a turn or more to get the wheels to move. Does anybody know what causes this and how it can be fixed. I don't trust the mechanic that looked at it in the first place so he may be bull-shitting me in order to get more money. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Try in the Tech section, Kills Forum or Drag forum. Most of the "Non-Honda" guys hang out there. May be able to give you a little more insight.

Do you have power steering? If so, try changing the fluid.

My '96 Crysler Concord was doing the same thing until I changed the fluid. Now it's better.

fluids fine, doesn't matter now cause the shop deemed it un-roadworthy. rack and pinion are f'ed beyond belief so instead of repairing i'm handing it over to the insurance company , thanx all, mods please lock this post or i can just let it die, either way
