What to do? need opinions for new motor or rebuild?
ok i was considering a b16 swap but i might do a rebuild on my D16A6 but i'm not sure. well the question i have is this...my old D16A6 went out on me. It was burning A LOT of oil and the next thing i new it locked up on me on the freeway. i pulled over and it was out of oil and i just changed the oil 3 days before! so IF i were to do the whole D16A6 thing instead of the B16 route....would it be best to rebuild my old rod knocking D16 or just buy a new shortblock? Is it even possible to rebuild a motor that is in that bad of condition or maybe it might be better to buy a better conditioned D16 shortblock and swap it in? well thanks for any input and help.

Personally I would get a less used D16A6 if you're planning on rebuilding. There could be some damage/warping on your current motor. With the prices on used A6's out there, why not get another one anyway? Screw your old knocking POS.
you should be able to find a a6 long block 4 $100-175 or y8/z6/y7 4 $200-250..especally if your in CA. check the classifies for all the 4 gen/sohc and you should find a few to pick from in no time.
I agrre with todd you can get a d16a6 for well under $300 and to do a complete rebuild it will cost 2 to 3times of what a good used d16a6 why not get a zc its cheaper then the b16 and better power then the d16a6 for just about $500 you can get one and keep evrything else such as the tranny if si, ecu pm6 and you might just want to replace the clutch.
