Default Golden Eagle Mfg. clean up two classes at NOPI Finals.

NOPI Mopar Race War Finals 10/18/03 – 10/19/03 Fontana, CA

The teams that represent Golden Eagle Mfg. made a great show at the NOPI finals. With the likes of Lisa Kubo and Sav Leone taking the wins in their class, Golden Eagle Mfg. managed to help clean up two of the fiercest classes in import drag racing.

Pro Outlaw FWD (A Golden Eagle Mfg. Win )
Lisa Kubo : Saturn Motorsports

Lisa came into the season about half way through with the hopes of getting the car to run consistently. We knew she was going to do well, and we were right. Lisa has claimed the victory at the Nopi 2003 World Finals in Fontana, CA in the Pro Outlaw FWD class with another 8.3 pass under her belt. Lisa has continued to improve every time she hits the 1320 and we are rooting for her next year to take home another national championship win!!!

Ed Bergenholtz : Bergenholtz Racing
With the retirement of the Bergenholtz CRX, Ed and all of Team Bergenholtz now have a clearer picture of what needs to happen with the team as a whole. They have all agreed to concentrate on the Mazda 6 so that it may be a force to be reckoned with come the 2004 race season. Although Team Bergenholtz showed up to the Nopi Finals, they decided to put the car back onto the trailer due to some valve train issues. We hope to see a lot from this dedicated team in 2004.

Pro 4 Cylinder (An ALL Golden Eagle Mfg. Final )
Sav Leone : Leone Racing

What are we going to do with Mr. Sav? Here he is, chasing gremlins for the last few races, and then out of nowhere, with the help of Jeff Famely and Vince Tiaga from Golden Eagle Mfg., a win in the NOPI Pro 4 Cyl.class and his first ever 8 second pass! Coming to CA from PA, Sav was the underdog of this competition. Not having very good luck in qualifying, he managed to pull the number 5 spot with a 9.38 @ 151mph. Sav then blew through the elimination rounds taking win after win until he reached the finals where he had to face fellow Golden Eagle Mfg. team mate Bruce Mortensen. They both staged, the lights dropped and they were off. Sav got off the tree with a .436 to Bruce’s .482 and took the win with a 8.929 @162 to Bruce’s 8.915 @ 159mph. Talk about a close race, the margin of victory was .0326 of a second in Sav’s favor. Sav should be making up some ground next year as he has decided to try to claim another national championship in 2004. Keep it up Sav, we are proud of you!!!

Bruce Mortensen : Venom Racing
Working with Team Venom is like working with a bunch of hungry wolves. “Whatever it takes” seems to be their motto, and they live up to it in every aspect of racing. We congratulate Bruce with his 2nd place finish and we are very proud to be a part of such a great group of people. Best of luck to Team Venom in 2004 and we hope to be a part of their team for years to come!

Pro Stock
Heather O’Connor : Venom Racing

Once again Heather enters the Pro Stock class and once again she learns more and more about what it takes to be competitive. With every trip down the 1320, she seems to get more confident and more adjusted to the car. Although there have not been any record setting times from this car yet, don’t count them out of the running yet. Team Venom is dedicated to being on top and I am confident that they will do the same with their all-motor entry. Great job this weekend Heather and best of luck for 2004!

Nick Novak : Saturn Motorsports
Saturn has been a joy to work with. From day one, we have been very pleased with the outcome of the Saturn cars. Nick has been battling with the best in the all-motor division, and soon we expect to see some impressive runs from this great group of guys over on the Saturn all-motor car. To Nick, Kerry, Mike and everyone else at Saturn Motorsports, we thank you for letting us be a part of your great drag racing team.

JJ Olson had to sit this race out due to some mechanical gremlins, but will be attending the NHRA Finals oct. 25 – 26 in Pomona, CA.

Gary Gardella has decided to also sit out the Nopi race in order to prepare for the NHRA finals where he has a shot at taking 3rd place in the champion point chase. He also enters the NHRA finals as the record holder for the quickest and fastest Hot-Rod class entry to date (8.45 @180!!! )

Lenny Hong has yet to make an appearance at a race, but we expect them to have all the bugs worked out for the 2004 season. Best of luck Lenny!

Thanks to everyone for their support of us and our products and race teams. Thanks to UrbanRacer ( to see more click http://www.urbanracer.com/gall...d=460 ), thanks to all the racers for keeping this sport alive and lets all get motivated for the 2004 season. Best of luck to all competitors at the NHRA Pomona World Finals. Stop by our booth t the race and check out our new products in person.
